When the Open Novice got
underway it was Lou Sim pso n (Yam )
of Redd ing in the lead with Tony
Zoppi (Suz) of Corning in second .
T hey put on quite a show moving wa y
out in front . In th e wh it e flag lap
. Zoppi was able to edge his way into
first and take the checkered flag .
Simpson had trouble just before th e
jum p . Losing control . he went down ,
but managed to get under wa y and
held second at the finish .
The O ld Timers and Veterans race
was a co mbined eve nt . Norb Brown
(Su z) of Oroville , shot ou t in front with
Gordon Mill er (Tri ) of Sacramento
right behind him . O n the second la p
Robert Mars (Mai) of Lincoln passed
Miller a n d p ut the pressures on
Brown. Mars gave Brown a to ugh go

Tony Patterson (Kaw) of Dia m o nd
Springs in the lead and J im Bu rbaker
(Mai) in second . Coming around in
the third lap Bert Wilson (Suz) of
Mi nden , Nevada got around Bru ba ker
and kept going to take first in the fifth
lap . Bru ba ker wa s able to take second
back again from Patterson.
