CMC/Suzuki .Golden State Series - Round three ard, Chandler, LaP By J im Gianatsis VALENCIA , CA ,JAN. 21 The third race of the Continental Moto-sports Club's Suzuki-sponsored Golden State Series, held a t Indian Dunes, saw the most exciting racing of the series thus far. Team Kawasaki's Jeff Ward ripped off the 125cc class win with 2 -2 m o to finishes, "M" Ch dl D anny agoo an er the overall 250cc r il d t eco ~ class Win Wlt~ his R a ncho Cordovasponsored Maico, and Da n n y La Po rte led new teammate Scott Gillman to Te~m Suzuki's first win of the seri~s a.mld some hea vy Open class cornpennon, The Shadow Glen course at the Dunes was reworked and portions of the adjacent river wash added to it. making it one of the neatest tracks seen in southern California in years . Moist loamy dirt and sand whoops provided an ideal racing surface tractive and rough making it c~allenging for the best of the Pro ? . weather finally w~s beautiful enough to allow two .30-mlnut~ motos per class for the first time all senes. . T~o new /old nders made their first offici al team appearances of the season. Da rrell Shultz won the second moto in the 250cc class aboard Suzuki's new R M.250N in box-stock form after learning the feel of the bike in the first moto, And Suzuki's old star, Tony DiStefa no , was invo lved in a first moto first turn crash on his 250cc Can -Am which put him and a couple of other riders out of the running for the day. 125cc .... AMA l25cc National Champ Broc Glover disappeared with the opening l25cc moto leading from start to fin ish .. . works bike. leaving Team Kawasaki 's Jeff Ward and Chappy Blose well behind to discuss second place. Suzuki's Bria n Myerscough worked his way up from a bummer start and at least one bail-off to fourth place ahead of Donnie Cantaloupi on the Moto -X Fox Yamaha. Gary Denton and DG's Gary Dirc k. In the second moto, G lover wasn't about 10 have things going his way again as the Yamaha experienced apparent gearbox problems, and Broc was forced to retire. Gary Denton had put his Suzuki into another one of his excellent holeshots at the start, but was quickly relega ted back a few positions as Jeff Ward and Brian Myerscough exploded their way past in a brazen ba tt le for the overall win. Myerscough wheeled his way past Wa rd at one point and sta rted to pull away , b ut then na iled a la p ped rider with his works RA -I 25 Suzuki and went down to turn the lead back over to Ward on the production KX Kawasaki . Brian quickly restarted though, charging his way back up to repass Jeff again for the moto win , bUI had to sett le for second overall as Ward claimed his second overall win of the series. Cha Blose was third again as Ron ,T u rn er put his Suzuki into fourth spot ahead of Cantaloupi and Danny Turner on the Kelvin Fra nks Suzuki. 250cc Carlos Serrano turned in his bes ride of the series as he grab bed th lead in moto one of the 250cc rae ahead of "Mad Man" Mark Lawrence, Steve Ba uer . Rex St a ten and Bil G rossi. While Ca rlos held the lea d fo close to the entire moto with hi Husky, Lawrence took a header on th fourth la p which pui him out. Grossi, meanwhile, was disconten to be riding shotgun and p us hed hi Moto- X Fox Maico past Ba uer an St aten into second p la ce . Then wit Rocket Rex pushing him from beh in wit h t he Team Ya maha YZ stocke Gro ssi waltzed past Serra no and int the lead . It only lasted a la p .
