Norstar's Goat .Breker was th e day's ma in man; he raced in four motos, and won them all for 'first in bo th the 250cc and Open Pro classes . He hung back at the start of eve ry race , accepting a m iddl e of the pack position off the lin e , wh ich is Goat's usual style in local ra ces. th e theory being to hold his pace until the front runners begin to expire a nd the n bear dow n to win , and it worked in all fou r rnotos . Jim Tarantino , who's been do in g qui te a lot of win ning out at Racing World in the 250cc Pro class, took the holeshot in his ra ce but Go at had h im in th ree quick laps and Tarantin o fin ished the ra ce in the number two pos ition. In th e second moto Taranti no and Br eker were way out front lea di ng the pa ck when Tarantin o lost h is chai n . His lead was la rge enough over third placeMatt Devich that he d idn't lose h is second place pos it ion but he certainly lost time getting it together a rid back into the ra ce . Unfort u na tely a bit later in th e race . his cha in slip pe d off again and thi s tim e De vich had enough time to get b y m ov ing Tarantino down a not ch on the win sheets and he was able to fin ish with only an overall third , behind Mit ch Musgrave. _ The big win in th e 125cc Pr o ra ce went to Pat Hubbs , and wh y not , sin ce it was Pat 's birthda y. What b ett er way to cel eb rat e than b y finish ing first in tw o m ot os a n d packing your pockets with a little win mon ey. Of cou rse Hubbs a lso wins when it 's not his b ir thday bu t he said he was so high today he just co uldn' t lose. Results OPEN PRO: 1. Goat Broker IHusl; 2. Tom Mayfi eld IMail; 3. Odyssey/ ATCrace By Elaine Jones ORANGE, CA , OCT. 15 R.A .C .E . Odyssey and A.T :C . racing held their second meet at Saddleback Sunday and , in spite of the World Series and Ram's football , had a good turnout of Min i ORV enthusiasts. . Pr obably the most in teresting race of the day was a match race between DG .sponsored Jim Hoover and Andy Marrale and his Chaparral. powered home built Odyssey. Hoover's Odyssey was a Modified class machine but he decided to match it against Marrale's Unl im ited classer , wh ich was built to th e hilt. ·1t started out to be a case of too much power as Marrale ended up looping h is machine every time he put the power to it and Hoover put a half a lap on him while Marrale played roll over, spin out and get go ing again . The fickle finger of fat e stepped in on the fourth lap wh en Hoover's machine . became sick and Marrale bounced home the winner with Hoover limping in second. Bruce W ing ju m ped out into the ' lead the fir st moto of t he Stock Odyssey d ivision with Randy Anderson se co n d and Stan Combs third. Anderso n moved on Combs the second lap and took over t he lead wh ile breakd owns started taking their toll. Doug Colvin was th e first to go with Stan Combs dropping out on th e third la p . Meanwhile Anderson and Wing continued to fight for the lead. Anderson rema ined firmly in cont rol and Wing had to settle for second. The second moto started wit h Anderson chasing Wing again bu t when they hit the first turn , Anderson did a spectacular flip that broke his rear axle and he was finished . Wing was gone with Combs locked in behind him and Gary Strong third . From there on out it was a case offollow the leader. The overall went to Wing with Combs second and Anderson , with last place points, taking third from Strong by one point. I Fr ed Wing kept the family honor. alive by winning the Semi Modified Odyssey division with a perfect score.l Alan Ryan was second and Don Wood third . The Semi Modified ATC class saw a big field come to the line and a whole bunch hit the first turn togetherj Phillip Finch came out first followed by Curt Sparks and Bob Gill iam. As they headed int o the second lap Fin~h made a mistake that cost him eight places while third place Gilliam slipped int o firs t and Bob Briggs took over the third place spot. Everybody held pos ition until the fifth lap when Sparks got a wheel under Gilliam to take over the firs t. Back in the 'p ack Finch was working his way th rough traffic and was running fourth with three laps to go . On th e white flag lap he moved on . th ird place Briggs and came awa y with the show spot. Gill iam was second and Sparks first . The second moto saw Sparks go directly to the head of the class Mth Chuck Connolly second and Gilliam third . Gilliam had moved to second by the second lap. When they came around on three there was a new face in the crowd as T im Kolerich got around Connolly to take over third. On the wh ite flag lap second place Gilliam zigged when he should ha ve zagged and both Kolerich and Connolly got by him to take over the 2- . 3 spots. Sparks came away with the overall with two hard fought firsts. Gilliam cla imed second by one point over Kole rich . Results ' OOVSSEV , STOCK: 1. Bruce Wi ng; 2. Stan Combs: 3. Randv Anderson.
