A.J. Whiting and Chip Johnson ran 2-5, where they stayed until the flag . _ Things were a little more interesting in the second moto as O'Mara was back in the pack off the line while Johnson set sail out front . O'Mara picked his way through to fourth by the completion of the first circuit, with Brad Williams and David Ba ke r between him and the leader. These 2 ·5 riders were set back on the next lap , but Johnson · was way out ' in front. O'Mara began a steady drive and three laps later he reeled in Chip and took the lead , and positions held till the flag with Baker third and Whiting fourth. b:rhe 250cc Pro win went down to the fina l laps before being decided, and Donnie Hansen was in the rig h t pla ce to pick it up. N ick Hale grabbed the first moto holeshot with Hansen, John Atwood and Don Draskovich trailing . As they exited the first turn, Atwood's - Maico .began swapping and sent Draskovich down in a bad spot. After getting run over, the DMG rider got up and shook off the injuries, and returned to ride the second rnoto. Hale set a good pace with Hansen , Pete Snorteland, Bill R obert son -a nd Eddie Cole in tow , but Hansen got off o n the third lap , dropping 10 positions. Greg Robertson moved into fourth ahead of Cole , and then worked past Bill Robertson and finally Snorteland at th e halfway mark . Cole and Atwood did the same to take the 5·4 spots. . Moto two was all Hansen , who picked up sixth in the first m oto behind Johnny O'Mara, who was in one of his first rides on a 250cc machine . Snorteland, O'Mara, Dea n Perry and Nick Hale followed Hansen through the first la p, but O 'Ma ra grabbed second and Hale took fourth on the next lap . Greg Robertson was back in seventh, b ut on the move. By the fou rth la p Robert son moved up on the H a le/ Snort ela nd battle for thir d , !j~t one la p la ter Ha le tangled with the Honda and they both dropped . If Robertson could hold his third , he wbuld win . The moto smoothed out uritil the 10th lap , when Rob ertson made the costly mistake of overshooting a sand berm and taking a mouthful of dirt out of the turn. T his gave H ansen the overall if he cou ld finish ahead of O'Mara, which he did . 0 O pe n Pro action was hot as Dave Ha ugh and Arden H adley ou tra n the field and set up a 's how of their own. In the first moto H aug h grabbed the holeshot and by the third lap had over 100 yards on Joe Blanchard, Paul Sedler and Ro b O 'Rourke. Hadley was back in sixth with G reg Robertson fighting behind. Hadley was the more successful of the two chargers as he overtook O'Rourke for second at the halfway mark and Robertson took a header off the front straight double jump when his bent foot peg caused him to slide the rear end out when he landed. The moto came to a close and Haugh took the win ahead of Hadley and a flying GaryJ one s. Haugh replayed the first turn with Blanchard the second .rnoto, but this time H adley was in fifth off the line. Steve Rawson slipped by Bla ncha rd early for second as Hadley stuck his Maico into fourth and then third by lap three . Haugh was no t pu lling out the lead he ha d the first moto, and when Hadley put Rawson back to third, Dave was not prepared to fend off Arden for the front position. Hadley took over on the ninth lap , and Haugh began to slow considerably with fading suspension. Hadley went on to victory ahead of Haugh and Rawson.
