District 36's Number One, George Hendrix was picking his way through the rock fields very carefully as his 390 Husky wasn't equipped with a skid plate. George invited all the desert aces up to the upcoming NorCal nationals. Tom Webb (Yam) who won the previous week's National in New Mexico took fourth overall after fighting the flu all week, edging out Burleson by two points. Harry Keast (Mai) took seventh overall, first Senior to just about lock up the District 37 Senior Number One plate for 1978. Just last year, Carl Aastrom (Hus) was a fast C rider. He made B and earned an automatic transfer to A when he smoked the B class losing just 16 points to beat out Randy Chamberlin (Hus) for B honors. The B riders thought the second loop was extremely challenging but the resets kept them from getting too far behind. A C rider by the name of Painter led all the other first loopers in with a score of 12 points lost. Ann Mennell (Yam) made the top 10 one loopers with a seventh overall and first woman dropping 32 points. J ay Tullis (Hon) was first 200cc A rUle r, in at 10th overall with a 10 point I~ . • District 37 Board of Director lIJember Ron Hall finally ' earned himself an enduro trophy in style as he won the 200cc B class with a 43 points score. "It's been a long time coming," r~ports Ron who usually races desert . Wendy Pravda drove all the way from Los Lunas, New Mexico and made it to the second check where her carburetor air boot split apart. She had fun while she lasted though. . In all , it was a challenging desert na tional , and luckily everything turned out OK after a bad start. •'Dick Burleson is on his way to another title. It was good to see him come out to the west coast and earn points here, especially since the desert isn't his favorite riding area . Team Honda's four-strokes are constantly being improved and could prove to be a real threat in the future with more woods tuning.
