PUYALLUP, WA , SEPT. 13 One hundred and ten riders put the 01' Puyallup Raceway to bed Wednesday night. .What a day to remember. But I want to remember the good times, the exciting times. Roger D with a coat around his shoulders as he stands for the National anthems of two countries - Trans-AMA 1976. My good buddy Buck Murphy, as he rides a fmallap at PRP this very evening, 01' Buck puts electricity into every tum and jump. I'll remember best of all one son going from Junior class to Pro at this very track and another working his way up the Mini trail. And a special thought to all the super people from many states, Canada and everywhere that have been a part of this race program. In tonight's action Robb Manning turned a hot throttle in the I2Scc Expert class, beating all the Pros to the flag. Manning (Suz) is a fresh young man that is certainly on his way to the top. Buck Murphy toolt out a loaner for the evening and was on his way to victory in the last lap when the chain gave out. The Bowman brothers made off with the cash, James hitting top money and Tim in for second. Kimi Pratt (Yam) aced out the first moto in Mini Junior, then came back with a six for third overall. The trophy honors went to Lonnie Alexander (Suz). Results MINI EX; Koith Fox IV.ml. MINI JR : 1. Lonnie Alonondor ISuz); 2. POI., T . _ I lSuzI; 3 . Kim PrIll IV.ml . 100 INT: I . Racing was at its best in the morning, and many 'rid ers praised the track saying that it was one of the finest in California. The SO-60cc Mini division was won by 7-yea r- old W'alter MacGinniss (Hon) from French Gulch. He was wide-eyed as he received his first trophy and his $20 check for first overall . The Ma cG inniss family continued to win in the 100cc Junior division when Gino MacGinni!lS (Yam) took first place. Lowell Lende (Suz) took first overall in the 70·80cc Juniors while Bobby Moore (MCS) won in the Intermediate division. Twenty-six riders left the starting gate in the 125cc Junior division , and Wade Snodgrass (Suz) proved again he's better than most by taking a first in both motos and first overall. Mark Strain (Yam) easily took second, but competition for third 'overall was up for grabs until Richard Henry (Suz) crossed the line in third the second moto for third overall. Winner in the 12Scc Intermediates was Brian Odell, who took a first in both motos on his Yamaha, and Rick Rackley (Suz) placed second overall. Wade Snodgrass, the Redding flash, was back again and won it all with back to back wins in the 2S0cc Juniors, ' this time on a Honda. With his I2Scc Junior wins , that gave him first in four motos, two first overalls. Robert Carrel took two seconds with Dennis Ambrecht in close pursuit for third overall. The 250cc Intermediate race saw Pat Schultz (Yam) on a Yamaha take first overall. Joe Giambron (Hon) added a second place overall trophy to his collection, while Bob Seim took third back with him to Livermore. Then the Old Timers and Vets raced. The 1.3·mile, natural terrain track seemed plenty long about the sixth lap. Pat Patrick (Mai) endured the experience to come in first in both Vet motos, and George Borecky (Suz) , was pleasantly surprised when he - realized he trophied by taking second. Bill Mooney (Hon) beat out Robert Brookins in t he Old T imers division . Only about 30 Pros competed for the $1500 purse , but there was plenty of com pe tition for Ch arles Halcomb (H us) , who took first in both 12Scc Pr~ mot os. Mike Pr eston . spo nsore d ~y ... Jorgy's Suzuki of Stockton , took second followed by Greg Mu scatell (Suz). :l The 2S0cc Pro division had three £ . different riders competing heavily for first in the first moto . Paul Turner (Hon), Danny Dennis (Hon) and Mike>[ Marquez (Yam) each led for a while , but when Turner got the lead in the last three laps he held fast and tooK.) first. Marquez was close behi,?d for ') second , but when Danny Dennis had ol to drop out in the final lap , Russ ) Cracknell (Hon) picked up third. ~ Dennis, sponsored b y Hillsid ) Honda of Nice, made up for it b~ ll leading the pack for all but the first la p in the second moto followed liy Marquez and Cracknell, who won first and second overall respectively. Gumbmann had lots of problems in the second moto. He did manage to work back up to third place by th e end of the race, ' but he couldn't catch Yochum or Wiggins , who won first place and first overall. Smith spears SRAMX By Maxie Abernethy :( .t FILLMORE, UT, SEPT. 4 The buckin' broncos and ferocious bulls released their Fillmore Fairgrounds arena to the Sugarloaf M.C. on -Monday for a day jam-packed with action. They built a jump out of railroad ties, wound the M track around the pens and through the gates that led off into the boonies, The band released the 2S0cc Experts and Randy Yates (Hus) drew the holeshot until Kelly Smith (Hon) worked up through the pack and slashed into the lead. Smith ran it all die way home while Yates scuffled with Joel Rucker (Hon) for second. Rucker's attempts were futile as Yates skillfully out- maneuvered him and flashed by the checks with second. Smith and Dale Bohm (Yam) fired a double out of the hole when the second moto got underway, but Smith made the first comer while Bohm shot over the top. Smith held onto the top spot until Rucker caught up and slipped into the lead. Smith gassed it to regain the spot. but his attempt sent him out of shape and left the door open for Yates. . Smith rode wildly in the final heat, with do-or-die intentions at the flag. Rucker, Bohm and Yates fought for second until the checks flew, then . Bohm skinned second with Rucker close behind. Smith took the overall, Rucker zapped second and Yates captured third. The Open Experts left the line and Bob Powell (Yam) diced himself out of the game and visited the hospital for a recharge. Ron Schaefer (Yam) was wheelin' in second until a rut at the top of the jump sent him into an airborn somersault and a cartwheel landing, and Pete Watson (Yam) got off in the boonies and checked out clouds for awhile. Meanwhile, Don Fuller (Yam) rode completely unaware
