Several riders doubled as Chicoans won five of 11 classes and 16
of a possible 27 trophies offered
at Cycleland Speedway Saturday
night. Lowell Moural and Dirck Sauer
are. two Chico ra cers who not only won
their . cl asses. but. the ir Handicap
Mains as well .
T roy Cummings led t he 250cc
Expert Main a lmost' from start to
fin ish . but Moural slipped by on th e
last tum of the last lap to win it for the
seco nd week in a row . The race began
with Cumm in gs ta ki ng t he lead
followed by Moural , Dou g Reiswig
a nd Randy Freeman. Reiswig was
battling it out with Mou ral for second
a nd fin ally go t hi m whe n the la tter
went high on tu rns one a nd two of the
fourt h la p .
Passin g Mou ra l didn't 'do Re iswig
much good however . as he b ike broke
do wn a nd he h ad to drop ou t th e next
time through the stretch. Cummings
.still led by a length at the wh ite flag .
but Mou ral closed ground and raced
on th e inside with him th ro ugh tu rns
one and two . C ummings wasn't giving
in as th ey shot down the backstretch
whee l-to -wheel. T hey went into turns
three a nd four together wit h Mou ra l
still on the inside. Cu m m ings a lm ost
lost it and ra ced wide as Moural won
by eight lengths with Freem an taking
thi rd and Jeff Fowler n ab b ing fourth.
The Handicap was a different sto ry
as .Mou ra l got to the front soo ner and
coa sted in from there. Jim Conger
fin ished second and Jady Patterson
th ird .
