While the $100 bonus for a tri ple win by a Pro was not in jeopard)'. a do uble win appeared 10 be a cert ai nt y by Ra nd y Hess as he went lWO for two in the I 25cc class a nd ha d th e 25 0cc class locked up with anot her two for two effort goi ng for him until sliding down in th e second moto while way out in front. Gell ing up in near last place. Hess gave the fans a real thrill as he charged b ack for a th ird overall at th e fina l checker. Ti m Lu nd e picked u p the 250c c class win over Ard en H a d ley a fter he (Lu nde) ha d su ffered a similar slide down in th e 125cc class while ru nn ing very close 10 wi n ner H ess. Clint Hard ick and Tony Gomez , bUl Hardick re-inju red his fOOl in lh e firsl molO of lhe 125cc class and Gomez. wh o came up with a strong pla c in~ in lhe second molO, had a 10th in the firs t mo ro after a combined mechanical fail ure and a spill . By far the mos t im p ressive performance of the night in yo" r reporter's eyes was the riding of Val Tamietri, who was one of the few Pros who had never ridden the Speedway I 17 course. While not winning an overall during the night , Val was faster in each lap of competition and wound up with a final rnoto win and seco nd overall in the 500cc class a nd a fourt h in the 250cc class. Consider this : 250cc class . 7·3 ; 500cc class. 3·!! Arden H ad ley's " p r a cti ce" rides during the last month of com petition paid off as he p ick ed up a $325 paydav. A special event for m in icycles was held . with $225 in gift certifica tes by Escondido Su ba ru, Escondido Suzuki and U .S. Halfway through the final lap of th e second moto Antonacci went by Burnworth for the win and a tie -breaker overall ictory!
