Protests eliminated fine rides by Syd DeSoto and Frank Batcheller, and Francis Mazur was declared the 750cc Produaion winner. John Buddenbaum (Palo Alto Yamaha BSA 500) cleaned . Larry Schultz's clock in 550cc Production and mentioned , "All I want to do is beat Schultz (Cycle Center/ Kanemoto Hon 550). I don't care about winning," even though he did. Jim Boeckel (Yam SR5oo) was third . Thad Wol ff, in his second outing at Sears, surprisingly opened a big lead and held off Gennady Liubimsky (Hunt RDS75) to win 410cc Production. The fight for third came down to the wire between Marc Salvisberg (Old Uncle Gay lord's ROS50) and Dale Alexander (Team Cheap/Berkel ey Yamaha ·R DS50). The pair was dead even exiting the last tum, and Salvisberg out-horsepowered Dale to the flag despite Alexander's efforts to grab Marc's arm as he pulled awa y. Wolffs win was the first of two for the day for Specialists II motors , . with Steve Sheft el powering his way to first 125cc GP . Sale Prices good thru 9/31/78 John 'Iron Man' Chermak, a familiar face at any West Coast club race, rode his Berkeley Yamaha-sponsored racers to victories in 200cc and 250cc Production. John consistently outran Can-Ams in both races, which is no easy task in the small bore classes. Greg Goodman (South City Honda Kaw 100) prevailed in 100cc GP , and Kevin Kiel (Inrerpart C-A 125) piloted his Canned-Ham to its umpteenth win in 125cc Production.
