Calif. 931DB It was one of those days where conditions were so rotten that the course was altered drastically, the rules were bent as far as possible to aid struggling participants and a sort of sadistic good humor prevailed. The good humor spread even to the riders but not while they were participating, for the most part. It surfaced only after they'd had time 10 wipe the top layers of mud out of their eyes and catch a second wind . The Open Pros started the day . Barney Newman (Man) got the holes hot and at the end of the first lap was the only rider not totally brown. He stayed that way until Skeet Hise (Yam) splashed by midway through the mota . The second mota looked like a rerun but as Skeet started to make his move just ahead of the one lap flag . Barney gassed it and Skeet was simultaneously spla ttered from head to toe and stu ck - not mudly but mechanically. The com bi ned Open Juniors and Intermediates rode second , or tri ed to. The big hill became a great problem for them in the first moto , If th ey'd given . trophies for toral m ileage traveled up and down in the at tempt to get over the lOp rather than how many t imes you went b y the lap counters the results ma y ha ve been much different. Matt Waldron (Bu l) became the onl y survi ving Intermed iate and John Semmler (Ya m) was the top Junior . These guys proved one thing in their first mota, the big hill was impassable. Mantey Mitchell (Ma i) and Skeet Hise (Yam) took turns leading, falling down .a nd battling with Jeff Howard (SUl ) through both motos of th e 250cc Pros . The leaders of the first 125cc Pro mota really had lousy luck . Clay Alar (Yam) led for a couple of laps but was last seen lrying numerous unsuccessful stabs at the only remaining hill in the course . Jim DeRosa (SUl) took over and grabbed an incredible lead while J im Anderson (SUl) was off in the woods doing an environmental impact sll r,vey, .Aa d e rs o a . 2 0 10 .back . up . 10 • •••••••••••• •• r ••••••••••••• second but stood no chance of catching DeRosa. No chance, that is, until DeRosa's bike stopped dead with two laps left. One lap later Chris Seines (SUl ) suffered some tense moments when his bike ran out of gas. He managed to prime it through to fin ish second. Anderson dominated the second race. One m in i mother deserved the trophy more than her offspring. Sean Leichner (Yam) was prepared with the best help a Mini rider could hope to have today. His mother followed the entire course helping him pick up his mud -laden' bike each time he fell . After two motes , Mrs . Leichner was totall y covered with slime, having fallen herself in the slippery goo, but Sean took home a first place trophy. Results MINI JR: 1. Darren Monen ISUl); 2. Stroski BRENTWOOD , CA , SEP T . 1 Can Joey Schlag be beat? If Gary Johnson keeps going as fast as he did tonight. he will soon be knocking Joey out of the winner's circle. In the final mota at Sand Hill Ranch, these two young riders rode side by side. You never knew who would lake the checkered flag until the last and final lap when Joey , riding for Cycle Town in San Rafael , was the winner of the 250cc Experts. In the 100cc class , Bill Harrison rod e his fi~t nig~l ~~c: . an,d, w<,>~ both motos, then came back to Win the Trophy Dash. The 125cc Novice class gets hairy every week with Dave Rodriquez, Mike Mythen, and Dallas Hamilton dueling it out hot and heavy. Tonight's winner in the first d ivision was Dave Rodriquez , after a fierce ride trying to pass Junior Glen Reinberg. Glen won the final mota , but was out of the trophy as he had 10 win both motos, Division two of the 125s saw Kent Allen pushing hard to pass Ernie Sanchez. Allen made a mistake and bit the dirt. Andy Taylor, lurking back in third . took advantage of the crash and went by Allen for the overall win. John Looney won the first mota but couldn't keep the pace and had to settle for fourth . The 250cc Novice class came up with a new winner . Mike Wyatt, riding for Livermore Cycle Supply, had his Suzuki all dialed in for a 1·2 finish. Mike got off in the second mota and came from behind, passing all but John Silva who gave Mike all the competition he could handle tonight. The Open class saw. Big Ken Morgan on his Yamaha TT500 completely run away with room to spare in the first mota. In the final mota Ken was in about fifth place as he went into the tree corner, he hit a slick spot and crashed hard . Larry Steinwandt's 5·1 finish was good for the overall win . Bill Edwards rode consistently for second. The next Sand Hill Ranch Sunday motocross will be Sept. 17. Remember riders, we now have Livermore Cycle Supply at every race to help you with those broken or forgotten parts. Results MINI BONOV: 1. Bill Mosemol !Yam). 100 NOV: 1.
