Bad Brad Lackey took the second DDGP Coors Cup moto ahead of Shultz. 17th. One of the best comebacks was made by Danny "Magoo" ' Chandler , dead last off the stan, and 19th at the flag, After the results were posted, the second moto lined up according to how they finished the first round. Now that he . was on the front row, the second best 500cc morocrosser in the w orld , Brad Lackey, holeshot the stan ca.nd headed up the long hill into the ~fbacksection. Jeff Jennings was right on hiS tail and actually went by Brad for the lead as they headed into the back, but Lackey repassed for the lead that he never gave up the rest of the race. "Sideways" Semics ran a rather distant third at the end of the lap, while Moates, Shultz, Mosier, Tony D, Bauer and Magoo followed. Myers rounded out the top 10, with Zahn , Gary Denton, Eierstedt, Weinen and Reid closed up to dice for a spot with a higher paycheck. Marty Tripes 'expe rienced another horrible stan and when the rear end of the pack headed out from the back section, Tripes was nowhere to be found . And he never did come around! It took Shultz until the third lap before he could get around Moates as they headed for the "d ry" mudhole, with no water this year because the Pros asked for it that way. Magoo pulled up behind DiStefano as Mosier dropped to seventh. Bauer was another rider slowly fading , but, like many, was not falling back from fatigue. The dust was getting unreal and riders had to slow considerably to avoid hitting something they couldn't see. Marty Moates summed it up pretty well from his viewpoint in fourth , saying, "I cou ldn't believe it. I was in fourth place and I couldn't see a foot in front of mel" , At the halfway point, it was Lackey, Jennings, Shultz, DiStefano, Chandler ,and Moates , with Myers, Mosier and Bauer fighting the dust to keep up. Gary Denton was moving up on Bauer, along with Greg Robertson, Eierstedt, Weinert and Zahrt. But as Lackey and Jennings exited the back section of the fifth lap: Jeffs rear end was wobbling, the sign of a flat tire. It wasn't long before Shultz, DiStefano and Magoo moved past, and the front four set up a fierce battle as they headed into the last feW laps of the race. Lackey had command of first , Shultz ran a distant second, but Magoo slipped past Tony D and moved up on Shultz to pressure heavily the last two laps. Magoo took several shots at Shultz, .but Shultz still would not budge, and as the trio headed into the last lap, things got really radical. Magoo was so persistent that Shultz had ' to go way over his head , and even admitted that he was off the bike SO much that Magoo must have been laughing too hard to pass. As Lackey headed up the trail out of the . back, traffic became a major factor, and when the double downhill jumps came up, Shultz was within striking distance, Bad Brad put the moves on through the traffic, but Darrell and Danny hung tight. As the checkered flag came into sight. no more than three bikelengths separated the top three. Lackey held in the mad dash, Shultz brought home second and the top overall score, ana. Magoo garnered third for the moto. Mosier held on for a distant fourth , Moates ran fifth , Myers sixth, Denton seventh, Eierstedt eighth, Robertson ninth and rounding out the top 10 was Warren Reid . Results MOTO ONE: 1.
