Johnson's win was his fourth of the yea r and put him into a solid second in the Co n t in enta l Mota-sports Club l T R IV IC Summe r Series point standings. H a rd ick 's 250cc win was es p eci a ll y im portant . sin ce Tony Gomez is still o ut with a foot injury. H a rd ick now has co mfortable po int leads in both t he 125 and 250 cc classes. If H ardi ck wins both classes he will be th e first rider to sco re a doub le class win in th e five -year histo ry of m otocross racing at Speed wa y 117 . Da vid Gerig's win in the 500cc P ro class kept h im still just one win ba ck . 11 -10 . o f Hardi ck for the Rol f Tibblin 's extra cash for th e winningest Pro. Right now . it looks like the loc al favorites for the bi g $2.000 CMC Night Pro Championships o n Sept. 6 will be R ick Johnson in the 1255, Clint Ha rd ick in the 250s and David Gerig in the 500s. Outstand ing d escrib es the Intermediate c1asses - all three classes were hotly co ntested. In the 500cc cl ass . Tom N imtz grabbed another win over point leader Lynn Vick , and moved to within four points of the point lead . Although Greg Meyers went two fo r two in the 250cc class. it was not without some real tig h t challenges by John Mello and Kirk Grissom . Grissom was out to repeat his win of the week before and looked like he h ad it done with a win in the sec o nd mota. but he went down with Meyers a nd Mello right behind. Grissom made one of h is patented charges to try and get the lead back but ran out of laps just as he got into third a nd had to settl e for a third overall. Scott Meyer sco re d hi s eig ht h victory o f the Summer Series in the 125cc class. and a lthough he took two for two. it was not as ea sy as first Matt Hopegave him a run for it in the opening mota and then Ronnie St. Germaine led Me yer for half of the second round with Tim Theodore always right there. The 500cc class point leader. Dennis Dunn. was the bi g show in the Junior cl asses. as he not only swept the 500 5. but wh en a brand -n ew . box -stock 250cc Kawasaki was offered to him to ride , he promptly wen t out a n d blasted the 18-rider Division I 250cc Junior classl The first mota of the 250cc class was in credibl e . as Dunn got o ff a bo ut 10th a nd was still in third on the las t lap . but somehow came to th e checkered flag wit h a half-wheel lead and the win . T he second moto was aruiclimatic as Du n n got the holeshot and even second place Ca rt er W rig ht cou ld not see him by the finish. The D ivision 2 250cc J u nior class featured a nev er-give -up ride by J ohn So telo as he ran a distant t hi rd to G ary Graham in the first m ota a nd was also ru nning in third in the second m o ta to G ra ham when Gra ha m wen t down a nd it became a two la p trophy dash a mo ng Sot el o , Lo re n J arvi s , Bob Cooper a nd a res u rging Graham wit h So telo grabbing the tie -breaker over Graham wh o got ba ck fo r third a t th e flag. Loren J a rvis was crashe d right a t the checkers by a la p pe d rider. The 125cc cl asses featured the umpteenth win by point leader Bryan Maloney and a first -ever win at Speedway 117 by fifth place po int rider T od d Lesser. Lesser's win was especially swee t. as it was a tie-breaker secon d mota win over the retu rning top Junior rider Ron LaFranchi. Again the big Speedway 117 CMC MX sho w will be o n Sept . 6 with the $2 .000 Pro Night Championships and su pportin g cl asses by the top 20 Juniors a nd Intermed iates in all cl asses plus a $250 Open Min i Cl ass. plus all trophy and m erchandise awards fro m our CMC/ TRIVIC Summer Seri es.
