David Gerig, Alan Smith, Tad Gumbmann, Mark White and Bob Marino trailed Wanket, but the group was soon broken up. Gerig took over third and on the next lap Smith also dropped Wanket back, then Gumbmann played the game and Tony was back to sixth. Marino lost his seat , .but a faithful follower strapped it back on with his belt. '!Ja m m in' Jimmy Weinert found Wanket a little bit tougher than the others did, and had to dice for the spot for three laps before overpowering Wanket. This opened the door for the 'J amm er , and he shot past Gumbmann and Sm ith for fourth, b ut Sm it h repassed as they both overr an Gerig. The moto ended with G ill m a n , Eierstedt, Smith and Weinert lea ding the way. Weinert grabbed the holeshot in the second mo to, but Gillm an and Steve W alker ha d differ ent ideas as to who shou ld lead . W alker took over for a short time, the n W eine rt and Gillman shot by. By the end of the first lap , Gillm an was back into his familiar positi on ou t front, b ut the J a mmer was stickin' it to him u nt il his fr ont end went the opposite way from his bod y and he was dusting off his derri ere. Gillman styled away to a nother moto win , but Eierstedt and Wei nert had to prove why they ride with factory colors. Rich picked his way pst four riders from the halfway point until the last lap. They were Smith, Gu m b m a n n , who went down , a lapped rider, and his toughest competitor, Robe rt Myers . Weinert, in the meantime, charged b ack to eighth, an incredible ride from near last. In the first 250cc Pro m oto , Bassett 's Jim Gibson used one lap to gain the lead, then rode to an in credible victory. Tim Michlitseh grabbed the holeshot on the start hill with Goa t Breker , Ricky Gage and Gibson in tow . O n the second la p Gibson took over as Michlitsch, Breker and Danny "Magoo" Chandler sta rted a three-way d ice for second . Magoo shot by Breker in one la p , then Mich litsc h in three more . Breker also .sli pped by Tim alongside Magoo, bu t Chandler was too much for Goat to handle. Positions held fast until late in the rnoto, when Cross'Up's Steve Rhyan took third away from Breker, then the checkers flew. Michlitsch ended up fifth. Danny Chandler holeshot the second moto, but ate it before he could finish half a lap. Steve Ba ue r took over as Gibson pressured from behind. Bauer held off Gibson until the fourth lap , when Jim got by for good. Paul Turner trailed in a distant third for the first few laps, while Robert Stem set up a pass that came on the sixth lap. On the 15th lap, Edward Jones passed Stem for third, but Magoo was on a wild charge back up front. When the white flag came out, Magoo put the pressure on Stem for fourth . Stem knew he was there and fought to hold him back, b ut Magoo was too m uch and took fourth when they crossed the line. • Results 125 PRO: 1. Mike Goodrich; 2. Cliff Len ; 3. Pat Hubbs; 4.
