Scott Burnworth won three classes at the NMAlYamaha event. Hemme. Hot little Hemme hustled his way into five different events and won them all to bag one of the Yamaha YZSOs. Hemme won overall in the Junior Cycle Modified, Junior Cycle Stock, 8Scc Modified 9-1l -year-old Expert, 8Scc Stock g-II Expert and the 105cc Open g-II Expert classes . .Scott Burnworth did his damage by winning all three of the clasSes he entered. The 8Scc Modifed 12-yearsand-over Expen class had so many entries that It had to be run in two divisions . Each division ran two motos and the 10 best in each ran a final run. off. Erik Kehoe had won the first race in his division, but in the second race he and Steve Schmitz were elbow to elbow in almost every tum before Kehoe flew off the highest hill on the course and landed on his back. letting Schmitz grab the win. In the second division. Chris Heisser and Scott Burnworth were going at it with a similar fevered pitch. Heisser won the first mota and Bumwonh the second. In the run-off, Bumwonh plainly let the others know he meant business as he dominated the entire moto. Bumwonh also won in the 8Scc Stock 12 and over Expert class to pick up one of the four remaining Yamahas. Bumwonh also won the 105cc Open 12 and over Expert class. The other three Yamaha winners were Greg Foutz from Amarillo, TX , who took the 8Scc Stock Novice 12 and over class; Tim Butler of Azle, TX, who roosted the 8Scc Stock Intermediate 12 and over class; and Rayford Collins of Jackson. TN, who topped the 8Scc Stock Novice g-II race. When the whole gig was over. -t he AMBUCS loaned the NMA the Moose Lodge for their award presentation and set up a display like you've never seen. over 450 trophies strung out in long lin es with the five Yamahas on a . stage in back. T here was even a cak e. baked by a local housew ife. overlooking the whole affair with a toy Yamaha stuck on top of the icing. The whole town of Ponca City got behind the race in a way that's hard to believe. and in fact , the town is so proud of their track that city street signs point out the way to the track. o 't ss tocross Cat every week i Cushings cash in at Atwood By Larry Vern Chvatal ATWOOD , KS,jULY2S Four inches of rain bombarded the Atwood track. the week prior to the motocross. which made ideal racing conditions. A field of 68 bikes entered the event. The Minibikes swarmed off the line as Jeff Cushing took the holeshot with David Green running second. After lap on e Green withdrew with a blown engine. which left Cushing an easy first moro victor. Pa t W ing nabbed second and Vic Purvis. in a last la p charge. moved from fifth to third. The second mota had Wayne Lanning leading. but Jeff Cushing soon took it away. Pat Wing. in third. gave chase to Lanning, passing him two comers from the checkered. Overall it was Jeff Cushing (I -I), Pat Wing (2-2) and Vic Purvis (S-4). John Cushing, Jeffs . brother, stormed to an eas y first moto win in the 100cc class . David Horinek ran second and Phillip Weintz was third. Horinek, Cushing, and Weintz hit the first comer three deep in moto two with Horinek holding number one coming out. Horinek built a huge lead and looked like a su re winner , as Cushing was running second. W ith two laps remain ing, Horinek cut in a little too close on a 180 0 com er a nd caught his sh ifter on a tire marking the course. After sto pping to straighten the lever.
