Dave Taylor roosted the 125cc Pros at CMC Saddleback. Jennings takes twoatCMC Saddleback MX By Mark Kariya ORANGE, CA,JULY 2 Taking advantage of a bye in the Nationals (which were back East and under water) , a couple riders used the opportunity to say 22 bye with a large chunk of the Continental Mote-sport Club's money and motocross points at Saddleback. The largest field of riders in some time came to do battle on a track which quickly became very dusty and slippery, causing some get-offs and a number of near misses. Willy Simons holeshot the first 125cc Pro moto on his DG Yamaha but was dropped to second by the end of the first lap by Gary Denton (Suz). David Taylor on the Marconi Racing/ LOP Suzuki followed until the third lap when he displaced Simons. Taylor wasn't content sitting in second, though. and took the lead from Denton on the sixth lap. In the meantime. Jeff Ward pushed his FMF Suzuki from a fifth place start up to third. Tim Tolar (Suz) did likewise, coming from a little farther back up to fourth. Simons had the start wired in the second moto, also, but Taylor and Denton got by him. Taylor is planning to contest the upcoming 125cc Nationals with the help of his sponsors and was using today as a final tune-up. He seemed to have it dialed in as he led lap after lap, ensuring himself of the overall win with 1-1 finishes. Denton and Simons dueled until late in the moto when Simons got up to second where he finished. Thirty-six riders went off the line in the first 250cc Pro moto. Scott Gilman (Yam) led the first four laps then got off, leaving Tim Lunde (Mai) and Nightingale Works Manufacturingsponsored Dave Miller (Hon) in first and second. Coming on strong from way back was Jeff Jennings on his Wheelsmith Maico. After sorting through traffic during the first six laps. he mounted a charge that carried him from sixth to third in three laps. On lap 12, he forged by Miller but couldn't get Lunde by the end of the moto. There was nostopping Jennings in the second moto. He went wire to wire in a near flawless performance. Denton. Miller and Lunde chased him , in that . order for the first four laps . On lap five, however , Miller dropped Denton to third . Despite feeling the effects of an illness last week, Lunde also moved past Denton on the next lap. They finished the moto in that order. The 250cc Pros weren't the only riders to contend with Jennings. He hopped aboard his big bore bike and took up there where he'd left off in the 250s, namely, up front and flying . David Williams (Mai) was second in that first moto and, with Jennings, put a bit of distance on the rest of the field. Val Tamietti (Track 'N ' Travel Mai), Bob Marino (Yam) and David Gerig (Ocean Pacific/Tibblin Racing/ Escondido Suz) rounded out th front five. Tamietti stole the Jennings-owned first position for the first lap of the second moto, but relinquished it to him on the second tour of the track. Jennings, who hopes to ride the TransAMA later this year, just wouldn't let himself be caught by anyone. Williams was third for the first three laps, but the kick lever spring ' broke which let the lever deliver some brutal whacks to the back of his calf. Gerig passed him for third spot on lap four and he dropped out at the end of lap eight, letting Chris Chaffee (Yam) in for fourth. Results MINI JR: 1. Tony Ala ISuzl; 2. Duane Summers lY.m); 3.
