VALENCIA, CA , JUNE 30
Larry Turner swept Division I of
the Modified Junior class during
American Minicycle's Friday
night minicross at Indian Dunes.
Fast Eddie H icks put his Suzuki into
gear to move by jason Wagner, and
challenge his Palmdale buddy Turner ,
but Wagner turned the tables and
moved back in second. As they
rounded the mini sweep , Hicks tried
another pass and slid ou t. The tension
mounted as Wagner reached Turner's
back wheel in ' th e ess. The battle
ensued right down to the wire with
Turner the victor.
Turner's holeshot in moto two was
again challenged by Wagner and
Hicks. The pressure was on as Turner
felt his shadow. When he . lost his
footing for a sp lit second in the tower
tum , Wagner moved to his side. As
they headed to the ess, Wagner made
a last attempt to take ,over and went
down, losing h is second overall to
Hicks.
Action ran high in the 12 yea rs and
over 83cc Stock Beginner class from
d ie time the warriors charged off the
line . l:yrone Taylor grabbed the lead,
only to find jerry Loaiza (H &H Auto)
.nd Brad Stich on h is tai l. As the
mighty trio mixed it up around the
course, Loaiza took the lead , leaving
Taylor and Stich bar to bar for second,
and Bryan Bier and Paul Sherrodwith
wheels in line for fourth. The flag
came out for Loa iza , with Stich
behind.
It was Loaiza from the start of moto
two, followed by Bier. Taylor closed in
and kept the pressure on Bier with
each lap. Heading into the hairpin:
Bier went high on the berm and
bounced off, almost taking Taylor
with him, but the battle continued
with Taylor taking a second.
Gilbert Valdez (Verdugo Suzuki)
took back to back wins for the 9·11
Stock and Modified juniors. Valdez
held a commanding lead du ring the
first moto, while Todd Parker battled
his way through a tight pack for
, second. john Gersjes looked for a way
around Parker , but had to settle for
third .
The second time around , Parker
put th e squeeze on Va ldez righ t from
th e sta rt , but by th e third lap Val dez
pu lled enough of an ed ge to hold the
lead , providi ng he made no m istakes.
Gersjes was sa nd wiched in between
Lisa Sanders and Bob Clark , but
broke loose on the downhill to chase
Parker. The race tightened for second ,
but Parker.hung on.
