Filice flashes at Pioneer night ST opener By Ann Carr OAKDALE, CA,JUNE 17 Jerry Griffith's Pioneer Arena in Oakdale opened its night short track high point season Saturday with 139 cushion track racers in attendance. A new lineup procedure should eliminate delays caused Saturday by riders who would rather clean out their bikes than race them . A late practice session for late arrivals will also quick-dry the race track and make heat races early in the program a bit more competitive. Racing was great in spite of the problems. Chris Carr and Aaron Hill staged another of their 80cc Expert battles with the Cal Cycle Supply Yamaha of Carr the winner over the Jorgy's Suzuki. Vance Sh erfield led the IOOcc Expert go wire- to -wire while Joe Knight nailed second over Shawn Black. Shaun Reyna took double 80cc and 100cc wins easily in the Junior ranks. District !l6 must know this youngster is ready for the Expert ranks. Sportsman racing featured a runaway by Tracy Hays in the 125cc Junior ranks and a hardfought second by Richard Thurman on a borrowed Yam aha . Abbreviat ed Expert mains disappointed many as heat race action produced some spectacular competition. Jimbo Fili ce em erge d th e big winner with a second behind 'J orgy" in the 250cc and a first over Castelhano in th e 500cc . Results MINIS 100 EX: 1. Vance Sherf ield IYa ml; 2. Two Mini Experts running into tough luck the past few weeks retained form and grabbed the 100cc and 80cc features.
