JUNE 18 Everyone m ust still have been feeling the effects of grad u ation parties because no t too m any were on hand Sunday a t Elsinore Raceway for the Gripsters M.C. AMA D-37 scrambles. Still . the "faithful" were all in their places and Don Grigsby fina lly got some points, the first of the season. We said we'd report on his protest at the Riders M.C. ra ce. W ell . the protest was dropped after everyone ha d a chance to have a talk about it. T-Bone won his class in this race with two firsts and a third on a track that wasn't th e easi est thing to ride on a big bike: A real blue groove built up with the heal. Bud Ca rro ll got off and somehow or other everyone m issed him with evasive ridi ng tactics hard to believe. Steve Karsten took off first like he did in his heat . with Mario Ayers behind him . then Ch ris Ca rr oll came along and took the second away bu t newly transferred Ayers (now a Junior) wasn't a bout to let Don Milam by. I guess th e 250c c Experts forget that there is an ultimate speed through any turn - go fas ter and you get off because get off they did in their second moto. La rry Bird . Pet e Hames and Bud Ca rr oll ended in a heap with Larry getting his bad sho ulder tweaked . After t hey got d usted off again , away they went . except for Larry, with Carroll in the lead .
