OK , MAY 20 Oklahoma City's Davy Jones , riding a Dennis Latimer-tuned "Dam n good racingl" was the comment heard by fans as the Kansas Motocross Series came to and end Sunday. An extra-large turnout of Experts were on hand, including several national riders. Going into this. event. David Thane Lahey had won 20 out of 20 series motos in the 125cc and 250cc Expert classes , which urged many to attend this event with a stop Lahey tone. Leading the attack was Randy Kirschbaum . top Midwest 250cc Pro in the Florida AMA series. Twenty 125cc Experts .tore off the all -grass starting area and onto the excellently prepared Steve Dix track , with Bennie Lee and Mike Boston out front. Kirschbaum was seventh while Lahey and two others crashed. By lap four Kirschbaum was into fourth and then took third. He took second from Boston as Ward Wiebe scooted into fourth. Lahey was battling Chris Coates for fourth as Wiebe crashed , Boston was back in second and Kirschbaum took the win . Lahey holeshot the last moto ahead of Boston while Kirschbaum rode the whoops like a madman to catch up. On lap two Lee took second as • Kirschbaum and Wiebe both got by Boston. Two laps later Kirschbaum was in second and closing on Lahey. but a lap later he motored slowly b y the finish line with a loud screeching noise coming from his rear wheel. It cleared up and Kirschbaum again was flying at full click. This had given Lahey the opporuiniry to open up a gap that Kirschbaum couldn't close. Lahey led 19 other 250cc Experts off the line in the first moto, followed by Kirschbaum and Barry Coates, Holem. . On the next lap Kirschbaum took second and set out after Lahey, who had 50 yards on him. Coates and Holem fought over third with Holem getting it at the end and Kirschbaum closing the gap to within 25 yards. Lahey again got the holeshot in the last rnoto. followed by David Dorsey and Holem. Kirschbaum jumped into third. but slid out and got back up in seventh. He and his Moto-X Fox Suzuki started tearing up the track , picking off rider after rider until the white flag came out and he rocketed by Holem for second. But Lahey again had built up too big of a lead and Kirschbaum was unable to catch him . Bud Lee dominated bo th Open Expert motos, but not without a battle with Oklahoma's Mike Patrick, getting the win , but Lee got the points. Patrick did a few scary things to unnerve everyone except himself. While hitting the take-off jump into the south straightaway, Patrick hit the tall stack of tires with his handlebars. babbled , wobbled and grinned in midair, and passed Lee. Results M)NI NOV : 1.
