Richard Pogue started off the action with a wide-open lead by the end of the first lap . Vaughan was running second with a pack of heavy traffic on his tail. all dueling for third. In third , Fred Paquett was holding back Tom Gin , Randy Rogers and Gary Truhitte. A Pogue/Vaughan battle developed for the lead with Vaughan taking over towards th e end in a hairy contest that kept each rider at the edge of his limits. Vaughan pulled ahead and managed to open a lead. while Pogue developed mechanical difficulties and had to push his bike off the track. R a nd y Rogers took over second and fought throughout the remainder of the moto to keep Lee Bognuda (Suz -Bognuda Consr.) behind him . Coming down for the checkered flag Vaughan held a strong lead . Rogers held second and Truhitte took over third. The second time off the line. Rogers grabbed the holeshor , holding . Vaughan behind in second with Truhitte and Gin challenging hard in third and fourth respectively . Vaughan got past Rogers , held onto the lead and took top honors. Rogers was second overall and third went to Truhitte. The second division of 250cc Juniors charged off the line with Robert Crabtree taking charge on his way to back-to-hack victories . He had Lee Norton on a Can-Am for Mammoth Skidoos running second, obviously equally at home on both motocross tracks and snow . Tom Flinn and Stuart Joh nson had their own duel going for thrid . They had both John Foster and Mike Price coming up fast behind them, threatening to overtake at any moment. Crabtree carried his lead down to the wire as J ohnson took over second and Flinn held third . Flinn had a wheel-clanging, no-holdsbarred battle with Price down to th e last moment, holding Price to fourth . The second time around Flinn and Price diced for the lead off the line and way into the race . Mike Hampton was making tracks and pushed his WilY into third by the end. Crabtree ended up the victor with second overall going to Price and third to J ohnson . Mark Moserop ' (Yarn -Answer Products) claimed top honors in the l 25cc Juniors . Division Two. In the first moto Bobby Gran took charge aft er easing out Burl Beveridge and Perry Cendro for the lead . Glenn Cave took over the second plac e slot with Moserup fig hting off Billy Noland for third. Cave moved into th e lead, taking with him Moserup in a battle tha t carried them through gusty winds that buffeted them about , catching yards of banners in their tires. Towards the end Moserup made his move and took command. holding on by a narrow margin . Cave ended the mota in second and Gran remained steady in third . When the rubber band snapped for the second time, the pack attacked the track two and three abreast with Ed Minton and Glen Scott wheel to wheel for the lead . Moserop moved on into the lead, taking with him Cave in second . Back in the pack Keith ' Almond (Yam) had his own private battle going with Mike . Ra hilly. Coming down for the finishing flag, Moserop took top honors, Cave got second overall and third went to Gran . Results in Resu lts Section. A group of riders go for it on the bumpy Spillway track during Sportsman action in the Coors Trans-AME Series. Novice night at Elsinore IT By Andi Gangewer ELSIN O RE, CA , APR . 22 Chuck Hobbs was the overall victor of the Mini class at Elsinore Ra cewa y by clinching first all three motos . Susa n Mason a nd Hobbs got a head start because they were Begi n ners, and Hobbs made it work for him . H ob bs kept the lead , b ut J im Snow and Terry Longnecker quickly moved in to second and third . Hobbs had a very comfortable lea d and Snow and Longnecker continue d to battle for second. Longnecker, aboard a Suzuki 80, was second for the first two laps, but Snow took over fro m there and the checkered fell with Hobbs . Snow and Longnecker , one, two , three. . In rnoto two it was Hobbs who again led the pack across the finish line. Snow and Longnecker came from the back line to work their way to second and third. Snow had a solid second this r ace a nd concentrated his effo rts on ca tching Hobbs instead of keeping Longnecker from passing. Snow worked the whole race to catch up , but WHAT DO ~THE EXPERTS SAY ABOUT THE NEW E. I. CARBU·RETOR?
