Rinard sweeps Explorer Post 2503MX 125 class By J im Roiger SAN DIEGO . CA , APR . 16 HJ . Rinard swept all ~ ~ . three motos to score a firs t overall in the I 25cc class of the Explorer Post 2503 motocross at Miramar Park. Rinard took t he lead at the start of the first mota, closely pursued by John Carter and Steve Braun. Midway through the rnoto , Carter's bike went sour , allowing Rinard to cruise ho me with Braun second . The second mota was again a footpeg to foot peg duel between Rinard and Carter . with Will La Roque lurking in third . On t he last lap with Carter nominally in the lead . his bike destroyed its gears one turn from the checkered flag . allowing Rinard the win with La Roq ue second . With his ma in competition out of the last moto , Rina rd cruised to an easy win with Steve Braun up to second after a good mid-race dice with Dave Conn and LaRoque who finished third and fourth respectively, Greg Meyers took the 250cc class honors . winn ing two of the th ree motos . The first mota saw Meyers take the lead at the start and rid e comfortab ly ahead of a furious racelon g di ce for second between Mi ke Rose and Scott Porter. The finish had Rose in second by .5 second ahead of ' Porter. The second mota saw Meyers come from behind to win . Mevers moved from third to the lead pastt he battle between Porter and Matt Carter three laps from the finish and he pulled Mike Palhegyi with him int o second . dropping Porter to third at the finish . Frank got the be rms up a nd the jumps all peaky again and the 175·plus riders rea lly dug it. Another fine fie ld of Pros were on hand, with the outsta nding effort going to three-straight 500cc Pro winner Chris Chaffee, who also moved into the tough ,250s and grabbed a come from behind tie- breaker second p lace from Mike Palhegyi . "Tony the Tiger" Gomez returned to nickname ' form in the 250s with ' a fine twostraight win effort. In the 125s it was all Terry Shekell as the 1977 champ ret urned to last year's top form to sweep two from Scott Anderson . OK , they make it hard, muddy , dry and now really j umpy, bu t still no one can to uch Clint Hardick in the Intermediates! Lots of Junior riders as a lways with the big effort by EI Ca pita n High rider T racy McMillen who went two for two in both the Division Four 125s and the 500s . In the Coca Cola /San Diego High School Championship Series . defendi ng champs Santana had only one rider in thetop three in any class . (Fenton 's win) but again a good solid team effort has them way out in front over EI Capitan in spite of McMillen's a two wins . Matt Carter picked up 500 cc Intermediate win for Mission Bay and moved his school into the third p lace spot just a head of Clint Hardick-led Monte Vista. who had help this week from Women's Open second- placer Ginger Senk le.
