Hough got a poor start , and had
troub le with a fuel pump , "but later
found the horsepower on the straight
to win the checke red .
The ambulances returned and the
500 -0pen GP class took off with Billy
"T he Bullet" Addington out front on
his Yoshimura -prepared KZI000 .
Harry Klinzmann was hot on his heels
by the second lap on his TZ-750. After
Klinzmann took
lead. Billy rolled
in to the pits with a flat rear tire. Kurt
Kritikos was second . and Whitney
Blakeslee was third on Lee Fleming's
KZI000 Box Stocker.

road racers returning to Willow
Springs International Raceway
for the first time in many years.

missed practices for some racers due to
long sign.in and tech inspection lines.
Racing got underway about 1:15

Pete Tsumura and Darren Penrod
really had it out . cha ngi ng places
severa l times on th e 50 ·100cc GP and
200c c Production cla ss. Tsumura took
first in 200cc Production , with Penrod
first in 100cc GP.
Fifty-nine entir es made traffic in
410cc Production hectic to . sa y the
least. The first couple of laps. first
place was heavil y co n tes te d . Ed
Toomey settled into a com fo rt a b le
lead , the following fini shers dealt with
traffic.

All injured riders were released from
the hospital that evening. So let 's cool
it next race, Sears Point Apr. 2. Don't

With a rare appearance of the
sun , motocross racing resumed
in hot style . The day's spectacle
featured Jack Barbacovi and the
California Rac!ng Club and
ove~

race thirsty riders in a $1000 purse
motocross at Indian Dunes.
T hese riders were not only enthused
about finding a d ry track su rface but a
modified one as well. CRC head
Barbacovi sta te d that th e club h as
never rac ed here on th e Internat ion al
track mor e than once with out som e
kind of radical cours e cha nge .
W ith 15 packed classes , th e event
lasted fro m morning to near d usk .
T here were 26 cranking 125cc Pr os on
ha nd for one of the best bo uts ever.
One ma n reall y dusted the pack
tho ugh. and cashed in wit h th e heavy
first place victory . Mark Lawren ce was
the name in this race and his Crown
Cycle -prepared Ya maha was the bike
th a t -the rest were for ced to follow .
T his was reall y the wa y it was too as

back -to -back. Dan Turner turned in
th e seco nd high estscor e in each rnor o

The Experts were out in droves
at the Elsinore Raceway TT
scrambles and 10 250cc Experts
were on hand to race for the win.
In the first heat of the 250cc Expert
class , an old time King of Elsinore.
Eddie Beeson, was back to try his hand
with the "regulars"and showed them
he still has it. Eddie got the lead from
the moment the flag dropped and took
the win easily. Eddie went straight to
, the main and left Steve Fortune .
Charlie Summers, and Chris Cannon
to battle for the second spot. Fortune
pulled into second, then in the b ack
corner Summers got by Cannon, then
proceeded to pass Fortune to snat~h
second.

In heat two , Joe Steffen pulled I the
ho leshot and went on . to an easY'J~in
and transfer to the main .
