Back in third, Clark and Klassen were having their own dispute as to who was the ruler of third . Cla rk successfully held Klassen off when, on the fifth lap , Richter wen.t head-first into the mud . This gave second to Clark. Richter repassed Klassen, who took a scenic route through some bushes and old timber for third. At the line, Staten took the win and the overall title ahead of Clark , Richter and Klassen . Back in seventh was Darrell Shultz, who got off a number of times and ended up pushing across for fifth overall. 250cc Pro Another total domination for Rex Staten came in the 250 c Pro class where he took both motos and a lot of mud back to Fontana. Grabbing the holeshot in the firs t rno to was Dunlap local Milan Garrett. Tad Gumbmann and Donn ie Hansen followed with the " Rocket back in seventh. As the pa ck came around for the first lap, Hansen had moved into second , Dennis Bra nd was in third and Staten picked his way to fourth . O n the second lap , Garrett sailed into a tum, head first . Hansen took over the lead and almost lost it in the next turn . Staten moved int o third when Brand took a ride through a stream and into a Ja ke, but came back and moved into fourth . After all the confusion ended , Staten had the lead with Brand ahead of Hansen and Shul tz up in fou rth. Gumbmann and Brand began a battle on the ninth lap that lasted for .three laps. 'T ad po le" took over second when Brand got lost in tra ffic. Shultz was work ing on an advance to the fron t bu t could not g et b y Cumbmann ," if t th e " "it '-':as clearly line a Staten affair with Gu m b m an n , Sh ultz , Hansen and Bra nd following . Taking the second moto was easier than the firs t for Staten as he grabbed the holes hot and let everyone else do the worrying. Through the first lap it was Gumbmann, Brand, Hansen and Shultz following the R ocket , but Shultz was th e most determined to get him. On th e next lap Shultz was in second and trying to ea t up the lead Staten had built. All Shultz could catch was the lapped riders that Staten put behind him , and the Rocket took his fourth moto of the day and his second overall/title win. Shultz picked up second overall with Randy Losh coming up to take third for fourth overall. Tad Gumbmann took fourth in the moto which was good enough for third overall. 125cc Pro Dan ny Turner ' and Brian Myerscough were the two names lo look at in the 125cc Pro dice, but DG's Dave Taylor came ou t a nd showed some pretty good stuff as well.' Taylor grabbed the holeshot in the firs t rnoto with J eff Ward right beside. Turner ran third off the line with Myerscough back in sixth. Taylor took over the lead for the first two laps when his b ike b egan literally falling apart underneath him . First his front brake cable broke off, then his throttle cable stuck wide open when some dirt got inside it , then his tran ny started to go l While all thi s was going, Myerscough had taken over the lead with Ward in second. Danny Turner took a couple laps to get by Taylor and set after Ward. Pat Richter ca me off the lin e dead last a nd , by th e sixth lap, was running fifth . After three la ps of Da ve Taylor , R ichter went by and hea ded for the Ward:Turner'battle. (in-the-l ast th"ree "" _. laps, this trio put on a great show as the distances between them closed up and it became a matter of skill to see who would pass whom. When the checkers flew, Myerscough had a 45 second lead over second place Ward. Turner held off Ri chter for t hird as Sou thern California CMC number one , Pete Wanket , took fifth . When the rubber snapped for the second moto, Dave Taylor grabbed another holeshor, again with Ward on his rea r fender. This rnoto Taylor put every thi ng together and kept it that wa y. Turner m oved into second on the firs t lap with Ward in third and Donnie Cantaloupi in fourth . Pat Richter moved into third on lap three and began to cha llenge Turner. As the moto p rogressed, Taylor held the lead with Turner and Richter closing little b y little e a c h lap. Myerscough got a bad start and was back in fourth spot, unable to move up. When the checkered flag came out , Tay lor took th e win , but only ma n aged fourth in the overall standings. T urner brought in second and the overall win with R ichter third , and th ird overall. Second overall went to Myerscough , who finished th e moto in fourth . Next week the series moves up to Sacramento for the final round of competit ion ' in t h e CMC /Suzuki .
