Ernie "Legs" Leggett, Doug Wood a nd Bret Ross out of business. Monty Pri ce (Oss) led the race for t hree laps but was .ove r h a u led by Mitc h Landerking (Yam) and Coos Bay's Ga ry Winger. Winger flew across the face of the hill to a second m oto first and maintained that position throughout all eight laps, pressured by Greg Wiley (Hon) and Landerking. O pe n class Expert Rod Nordstrom (C & R Racing) from Eureka , California , paid the track a visit and fou nd his challenge in Randy W ing. Lo ng, tall Norstrom gave it a fast try but C. B. is Wing's track and he 's hard to beat, especially on his 400 Yamaha. Wade Sta mp and John Bro adwa ter finished third a nd fourth . W ing , Nordstrom and Ro d H uffman went home with the pot from the one -shot mo ney race and mi nu tes after the last moto of they day, the black clouds rolled in and rain returned to settle the d ust. The Open Intermediates were the first to get goin g with Marvin Olson (Mai) first off th e line, followed by Tom Kageman on a Husky . Randy . Westbrook fishta iled along in third , also on a Husky. By the end of the fir st la p Kageman had taken over first a nd W estbrook was moving up to ta ke on Olson. Kageman pulled a le a d whil e Westbrook was slipping a nd sliding trying to catch him . Altho ugh there was a lot of tank slapping going on , there was surprisingly few bit e-outs . Kageman held on to first , with Westbrook only able to close the gap a little. Bryan Gorge (Ya m ) took third and O lson was fourth . In the second moto Kageman was setting the pace, but with the track changing to "spring conditions ," Westbrook was able to move right up to first. Gorge held third and was getting ready to make his move on the leader. He made it up to second but Westbrook won the moto and the overall . Kageman held on for third and took second overall. Gorge was third and consistent Ron Kragen (5-5) took fourth . When the 100cc Intermediate! Expert race came b uzzing off the line Expert Mike Reir was out in front.
