Goat Breker returned for another 40 grueling laps to take home top mDney in the 500cc Pro class. John Savitski, back from a third overall in the 250cc Pro class moved his way up into the lead with Steve R awson on the Mid Valley KT M in third . Savitski opened up a strong lead as Breker and Rawson were threading their way through a pack of la pped riders. Jeff Vidic, running fourth , was also caught in traffic and trying every conceivab le line to get through . Breker finally got by and moved by Ra wson for the number t w o spot. Heading into the white flag lap , Bre ker was ai rborne, closing ground on Sa vitski with less tha n five seco nds bet ween the m , By the end of the rnoto , Savitski was sti ll in control with Breker in seco nd a nd Rawson holding down third . The second time off the line , Ra wson settled into' the lead with Vidic in second , Breker third and Savitski holding down fourth . Breker, constantly on the move , took over the lead 'with Savitski right on his tail. Throughout the remainder of the moto , these positions held with Rawson in the third slot. Breker took home the top money for the class . Savitski scored second overall and third went to Rawson . Results in Resu lts Section. Adding insult to inj ury was the rain storm that hit, making it im possible for the riders to ra ce more than one mot o. Hemet H igh Schoo l must have re ally trained somewhere as they took the mud like Roger DeCoster to motocross and wound up winning five of 10 classes. Dia na Clark of Hemet and Kathy Campbell of Western , the only entrants, went after the Women's title. It was Kathy who got out on tDp but she ran into trouble on the second lap when she hit a water hole that was a lot deeper than what .she thought and Diana got by her. Kathy got unstuck eventually but it cost her a lap and the win went to Diana. Robert Cla rk , Diana's brother, gave Hemet another win as he broke on top in the 100cc Novice class and plowed around the course like someone born to it. Robert Young did the same thi ng in the 125cc Novices , bu t his Hemet teammate, J eff Becker tried to unseat him, staying close enough to ride dou ble . Unfortunately, wit h a muddy track, when you dial it on a nd a ll you do is spin yo ur wheels, pa ssing becomes almost impossible and Becker had to be content with second. Blair Bryson of EI Dorad o had enough for third . Ernie Snodgrass paid attention to the magic formu la Hemet was using and broke out on top of his teammates Hurley McCaghrew and David English. Snodgrass and McCaghrew stayed close together but English started having troubles immediately and dropped out of serious contention. Snodgrass made it to the checkered first with McCaghrew second and English a distant third. David Lesoasky had the other win for Hemet topping Melvin McFadden of Pacific in the Mini Division. . Some observations on racing in the mud and rain: The winners are easy to tell they're cleane r! Nice lightweight racing bikes become heavyweight barges. Jones tops O'Mara in AME MX duel By Lee Taylor BAKERSFIELD, CA ,JAN , 15 With several tracks closed do wn due to the rain, Sp rockets P ark's American Motocross Enterprises motocross pulled in some of the Hal Strauss 11 BIin action at Sprockets. top Pros in the State for a full card of raci ng. In the I25cc Pro race Bobby Jones (Suz ·CH) racked up a p air of wins for top money , At the start of the first moto, John O 'Ma ra (Suz·AI Baker) and Jones charged off the line together, locked in a duel for the lead throughout the race. O'Mara pulled the lead with Jon es right up behind him . Jones finally made his move and took control. Pe t e Wanket (Ya maha Motor Corp.) was forging his way through the pack and into third , and then closed fast on O'Ma ra . Heading in for the checkered flag Wanket finally squeezed by with J ones solid in the lead. The second time around , O 'Ma ra jumped into the lead with David Strong (Suz-M artin's Bicycle Sho p) ru n nin g second. Jones was back in fou rt h, bu t p ushed h is way into second , Bob Stem (Yamaha Motor Corp. ) in third had a battle with team m a te Wanket in fou rth . Wank et fina lly took over a nd set out to take Jones. As he was closing fast on Jones, Wanket developed problems with his bike and was forced out of the race. J ones, glancing over his shoulder for W a nk et spied Stem coming up fast and a Suzuki-Yamaha battle ensued down to the wire . .Jones cranked his throttle all the way and came up alongside O'Mara. Taking Ca n-Am Hill in tandem , Jones made his move, flying high to the outside and past O 'Ma ra . Head ing in for the white flag . O'Mara lost his chain and was forced back into third as Stem moved on by. Crossing the finish line Jones held the lead for the overall win , Stem took d own second overall and O 'Ma ra crossed over in third .
