The first moto of the day was the 250 cc Intermediate class. Dave " O hlmost" Oh l (Su z) grabbed the holeshot but was quickly passed byJeff Lusdale (Suz) and Allan Elbert (Suz). Mike Burnett (Mai) got off to a 10th place sta rt but was knifing his way through the pack at a n im p ressive rate. By th e seventh lap , he was in third , pressu ring Elbert. Two laps later , Lusdale dropped out of th e lead and fell back to lith place. This gave the top pos ition to Elbert for a short time as Burnett made his move and took the lead . H e held it the remaind er o f t he race and was followed across the line b y Elbert , . Dave Douglas (Yam ), Greg Lubinstein (H us) and Matt T edder (KT M) . In the next round, Elb ert grab bed th e hol eshot , but was passed on th e second lap by Jeff Clark (Yam) . Clark , who ran 20th in the fi rst m o ta , immediately opened sizeable lead . Behind him , Elbert was having a hard tim e with Lubinstein . On the sixt h lap , Lubinstein push ed h is Husky in to second , but by that tim e th ere was no hope of ca tching Clark . At the halfway mark it was Clark, Lubinstein , Elb ert and Ohl, It remained that way u ntil th e last few laps wh en Fr ed Cadwell (Man) moved past Oh l for fourth pla ce and, on th e ve ry last lap , Cl ark dropped ou t of th e ra ce for unknown rea sons. Cl ark 's a bs e n ce gave Lubinst ein th e seco nd moto win, but the overall went to Elb ert with ' two seconds. In th e 125cc Intermedi at e class , it was Matt N elso n (Suz) with a b ig smile. He took both mot es and ca me out ahead of Da ve Dickens on (Suz) and Larry Nelson ( Ya m ). Mik e Drebert (Suz) came ou t on top of 24 other 125cc Beginners ' to take firs t pla ce in that c lass . H e was followed by Jose H ernandez (Suz) a nd Jack Wri ght on board th e Gre at Yellow Cycle N ews Suzook . S. Hernandez (Suz) and Doug Forness (Yam) also wa lked away with a piece of th e $2400 prize. Res ults in Results Sect ion . Out of two Pro ent ries, they took the Mid -Valley banner to two first place finishes. In th e Open Pro class , Steve Raw son led the first show fr om sta rt to fini sh . David Hopkins (H us) held second for the first three laps, th en ran in to trouble that put him in last a nd gave second to Tony Pena (Yam ). Jim Lowe (Ma i) was close behind Pena in th ird . With th ree-q uarters of the race over , Pena began to tire. Low e soon moved by and into second . Raw son won with a comforta b le lead , followed by Lowe , Pena , a nd Rich Mark (H us) . Hopkins came back in th e nex t round . He grabbed the holesh ot a nd never let it go . Raw son got a b ad sta rt , but by th e fifth lap , was in seco nd . At th e fl ag the o rde r was H opki ns, Raw son , Lowe and Pena . Rawson took th e overa ll win with Lo we in seco nd and Hopkins in third .
