Staten tops Corona MX By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA , DEC . 16 Rex Staten, aboard a very fast Bassett Yamaha, set a star-studded fiel d of O pen Experts on its collective ear, literally cruising to victory in the season finale at Corona. Steve "Moto" Cross got off behind Staten with Fishback in the number three spo t and G.S .M. rider Mark Rawley in fourth. Fishback still had enough for second overall while Rawley ended in a tie with Cross for third and lost it because of Cross' second-place finish in the final go . Joe Price, who ' keeps telling everybody h e's too old to go the distance with the younger kids, will have to eat his words as he swept the 125cc Pro class with two straight. They mixed it up pretty good in the first moto with Jeff Hollie claiming the second from Robert Gray. The second moto saw the ranks greatly depleted as Price and Hollie were the only two to make it to the line. Hollie got out ahead of Price but by the second lap Price had the lead and Hollie , shortly thereafter , was sidelined. He still picked up second with Robert Gray one point behind in third . Nine 125cc Intermediates were on hand and no one had a lock on first ~-~- ' - --- --' . place .
