T ha t was not to be as Nelson and Bauer were holdin g stro ng . The secon d mot o saw N elson again out on top and th is tim e he d idn't give an inc h as he brought it on home. Ba uer ran into trou ble on the white flag la p and Rawley was there to pick up the pieces. The win went to Nelson and Bauer had enough to pick up second and Rawley was third. David Williams walked away with the Open Pro with comparative ease as he went two for two. In the first moto, Ma rk Ellis was second off th e line with Paul Shones third. The second lap had J im Lowe pick up a spot as he took th ird awa y from Shones and got an extra bonus when Ellis went out with problems . On t h e third lap C arl Gei sechon went on the move and went to second . Shones came back on the next lap to ta ke over seco nd and he h eld it to th e c h eck ered fl ag . Giesechon claimed the th ird. Williams aga in ran awa y from th e rest of the field with Shones in second and Lowe third . Shones held position until th e wh ite flag lap when Lowe got by him and got home first. Shones got th e second overall by one point over Lo we. Resul ts in Resu lts Section . AME Minicrossers storm Indian Dunes By J udy Greenberg VALENCIA , CA , N O V. 25 AME Minicross held th e last Friday night race of the season with riders battling for final points and hopes of a year-earned number; 22 The '78 Suzuki RM80s made th eir debut on the m in i track, and ap pea r to be a dynamite machine. David Seekins on his Pesky's Suzuki RM80 won th e first moto of th e 105cc Mini Open. Doug Gentry and Eddie Gr een were next to finish . It was Seekins again in th e second moto , until Gentry nudged him out a t the ha irpin. Seekins had Gr een on his ta il wh en the two crashed in th e to wer tu rn . Ge n try sail ed in for the win with Rich ard Ising's Prem ier Yamaha and Suzuki -m ounted J ack G reenberg - fin ishing second and third.. . Paul Smith picked up th e win for the 83cc Stock Junior 9·11 years on h is new Suzuki. Ga ry Szilagyi won th e first rno to , as Sm it h fough t with Fr ank Darr and Lou is Nagy. Smith got by N a gy on the down hi ll sweep a n d closed the gap on Szilagyi as the flag wa ved t he m in . Smit h h ad t he holeshot a nd led fro m sta rt to fin ish in th e last moto . Nagy finished second , des pi te th e heavy p ressure from Darr. Ad am Ford took co m m a nd of the 83cc Stock Junior 12 and over , for several laps in th e first moto until Bobby Simons m oved past. Ford gripped second for th e remai ni ng laps . The second time , Ford took the holeshot but lost his lead in a first lap fall . Rich Houghtaling took over with Simons on his tail. As th ey rounded the sweeper, Houghtalin g looked over his shoulder to watch Simons pour by on the outside. John Braget h eld strong to third , but lost it going down in the last la p . Fo rd barreled his wa y through heavy traffic to finish third . Resu lts in Resul ts Section. Norco edges Poly in HSMX By Elaine Jones CORONA , CA . N O V. 19 Two tough teams brought it right down to the wire as N or co just barely beat Poly overall in round two of th e High Sch ool Student MX Series. Poly drew first blood as they co llected th e win in th e Min i Novice as Brent Blou nt wen t two for two . Mike She neman added the icing fo r Pol y as he followe d h is teammate home to collect the second . Rob Breedin g b ro ke u p the clea n swee p when he came up wit h third pla ce honors for La Sierra . Poly continued on th e win trail as Todd Anderson collected two firsts on his way to victory in th e 100cc N ovice class. Todd Huegel , rid ing for Alt a Lorna , came up with two thirds a nd was more consist ent t ha n Kevin Huntsman of San Bernardino and Ken Rycraft of Norco who both had a second to their credit but had each also added a fifth and lost out by one po in t. Wa rren Bell and Randy Ritchott e kep t the Poly machin e in full gear as they tie d for the win in the 100cc Intermedia te . Peich ha d not fa red well in th e first moto as he co u ld do no bett er t han fift h but it was sti ll good eno ugh for th e second overall. T im May of Sa n Bern ardino had eno ugh for third . Alan Seeley got No rco on th eir way in th e 125c c No vice , Division I as he ha d a swee p with Kle n J e nsen of Bloomington right behind h im wit h two seconds a nd Mike Rix of Poly winning th e tie for t hird over Dennis Moon. Pol y and Norco met head on in the 125cc Senior Division and th e two rivals were Vinnie DiPadova for Pol y a nd Bill Jewett , Nor co . It was Jew ett fro m sta rt to fin ish in the first mot o with DiPadova r iding double wit h hi m . The seco n d mot o sa w DiPadova get the holeshot with Jewett stu ck in traffic an d unab le to get a t Di Padova to cha llenge him .
