But by golly, the Saturday after Thanksgiving found about 300 riders and several hundred family members and support crews out celebrating the 3rd annual running of the Phantom Duck of the Desert Barstow to Vegas Unorganized Trail Ride. My thanks to everyone who participated and offered their support. To the two man Jeep crew , , that rode clean up - what can I say to express our thoughts other than that I and all the riders are eternally grateful. To the motorcycle club who rode point, middle, and sweep and had members who waited at the finish until 11:00 p.m. while other club members were ' searching the desert for stray riders, you know how I and the other riders feel. It's people like you who make the desert a good place to be . Desert people are generous with donations, and there was more money donated than the old Phantom Duck has spent on postage, printing, pins and that white stuff you saw out there. The excess, $214 .64, is being sent to the friend of anyone who has ever visited or ridden in the desert , the good people of Rescue 3 Search and Rescue Team of Barstow , CA. Let's hear it for Laudig Since the year is almost over, maybe it's time we gave our thanks to Mr. Gary Laudig for the fantastic job he ha s done ,with his AMA District 37 coverage. He always seems to be where he 's needed : Baja, Anaheim .. . There are a lot of people who don't get to go out to D-37 events every weekend, but they can always look forward to Mr. Laudig's articles. You almost feel as though you were there.
