Willis and Loce y flying three abreast off Can Am Hill . and Locey taking over third. White. try ing a bit too hard , collided with Strong go ing into a turn and had to retire with a broken clutch cable. Locey was now in second a nd out after O 'Mara . Root took over third when Will is slowed with problems. O 'Mara was fighting for his life with Locey now just one to two bike lengths away . O'Mara went down and Locey mov ed on by to cinch the class win . O'Mara was back up and in the race , still in 'second . Locey took the overall win , O'Mara was second and Root picked up third , Results in Results Section. - - t Smith, Wanket, Vidic split CMC grand By Brian George ORANGE, CA, NOV . 20 To get the biggest share of a CMC $1,000 purse is like challenging a horse to swim the English 18 Channel. It can probably be done, but it sure is hard! J ust ask Tony Wanket , Jeff Vidic, or Alan Smith. The action was furious. and busted bikes a nd bodies were a common sight. As the herd of screaming 125cc bumblebees flew up the start hill and around the first turn , Gregg Toyama grabbed the lead with Bobby Jones and Rad ica l Ron Turner on his bright red butt. Toyama held off the attack coming from the rear. but on the fourt h la p Turner blew bo th Jones then Toyama into the snow fence . Turner never lost the lead once it was his. Back in the fight for second were Toyama and the Wanket brothers. all taking shots at each other and all holding the spot at one time or another. Pete Wanket had enough of the games on lap ten and took away second from Toyama. Greg then became the victim of passes by Tony Wanket and Bobby Jones . The top five who crossed the line were Turner. This time Toyama had to fight off Lett and Tony Wanket for the lead. At the halfway mark Lett took over the front and never lel anyone by. Toyama and Tony were left to fight for the second place money. Right before they took tli white flag, Tony slid on the inside ,~ Toyama and took the number tWo spot. · r. A field of 32 pros lined up for tli e 250 race. Gary Denton took the lead with Tim Welker and Jeff Vidi« following. Denton slowly kept dropping places each lap . A bad handling machine was the cause. and Denton didn't even bother showing uR for the second race and risk inju . Welker led for one lap, but tli~ pressure from Vidic was too much a Welker spilled. Denton and VI traded the lead until Jason Yadagawa moved Denton back-a nother slot. the last lap TonyWanket moved in on the scene along with Turner an brother Pete. Tony held second a ~.l,i~e line behind Vidic. Turner got arot¢.d Yadagawa to take third and p't!re Wanket took fifth. JJ .6~ . Going all -out for the win in lllj second moto was Radical Ron. Turnei took second off the line and then thi! lead from Yadagawa on the third lap Yadagawa wasn 't having one ofr hit better races as he dropped back inte ninth . On the very next lap ohc dropped into the ambulance with a broken shoulder. Up front Vidic an~ Turner were savagely going at it. Vidi ' h a d to hold on to secorid for. It overall win. As the las t few laps rollea around . the Wanket brothers ro lledi too. Pete. then Tony pressured Vi~ as they passed through slower traffic. At the checkered it was Turner taking the win and second overall . Jeff Vidic rode across in second place becoming only the sixth rider to take 75 career wins in CMC history . Pete and Toll'! Wanket followed . with their overall finishes reversed . .,J David Williams came out extrernel] hungry for a win in the 500 Pro class , After over 13 months of finishing OUI of the winner's circle. Williams and hi! Maico mount looked unbeatable. Al the first run of the big bikes went off, Williams took the holeshot and totallj dominated the race. Bob Marino ran in second all the way with Alan Smi at his heels from the fourth lap to t'lc flag . Steve Rh yan pulled into fourth a i the fini sh.
