Utilizing ju'st about the entire park , it gav e the c riders four and a half hours of steady plonking. £ Honda teamster Mark Eggar 'clea ned 31 sections en route to a gold med a l performance, losing but 13 'poin ts all day. Jj~ JA sterling effort by Greg Le rsch, ' .rid ing a 350 Bul, earned him the silver m ed al, while Mark Webster , also on a 350 Bul, garnered the bronze. '2n The Amateur class honors went to rR ick Bieniak , r iding a 350 c c ' guacam ole special. Bruce Davis , in ' on ly his second ride since mov ing up -from the novice ranks, placed a solid Jse con d aboard his 175 Yamaha. Steady riding by Michael Allen earned him a third- place bronze medal, ".aboard a 348 Montesa . Rick Manley ' also captured a bronze by placing < rth . fou l A The Novice class was decided by a ,'26 to 27 score by two fellows who have -been working hard at their feet -up style. Dave Willson hung in there and rplonked his 348 Montesa into first ep la ce , winning the ITA belt. A gold medal ride by J . Peake and his 250 Honda captured second. Ed Beckman finished a solid third . Larry Curtis was fourth, followed by Mike Grant . Only l six points separated these five ridersl h David Green took his Montesa 348 ~to victory in the Beginner class '. Just a couple of points behind was Doug Hofer on his 350 Bu l. Kaw asaki rider Fr ank Travieso was a close" th ird . These fellows wer e matched close on po ints as well as cleans. Kurt Otto and Allen Willis followed , both earnin g bronze medals. T he First T ime Beginner cla ss was dominated by Gary Dudley, who looked re al good a boa rd his 250 Bul. Glenn Alers gav e it a try and came in second on his 125 Honda. Bob Grove edged Gil Sm ith for the Senior A honors. The duel went on all d ay with both riders keeping tab on one another. When the fin al tally was counted it was 48-50 in favor of Mr. Grove. Ray Palmer hung in there for th ird . All riders were on 350 Buls , The popula r Senior B com petition saw Jack Stone win with an impressive ride, taking the class as well as the ITA belt aboard his trusty 125 Honda . Gordon LaDuke finished second (aga in) with a good ride for the silver medal , on a 350 Bul. Jerry Manley kept the feet up enough to just edge Art Webster for third . Brian Myerscough (Suz) who is just recovering from a serious leg injury, was a lso in the ring, making for an exciting and colorful race . At the start of moto one, it was Hubbs in the lead, followed by Clint Carman (Suz) and Myerscough . Lawrence's start wasn't too hot, but he was soon up there with the leaders. On the second lap , Myerscough took over second place , b ut he still was out of striking range of Hubbs. In the next few laps, Hubbs did nothing but stretch his lead. Before he knew it, however , his lead was cut down to size by a hard-charging Lawrence, who had just gotten around Myerscough for second. For five action-filled laps, the Suzuki and Yamaha riders went at it tooth and nail, then , in a daring move on the 10th lap, Lawrence grabbed th e lead.
