T he track itself, located a t the Ukiah Raceway - 12th District Fairgrounds, was designed and prepared by local racers under the auspi ces of CM C wit h financ ial support from the Lake Mendocino Li ons Club , a lo cal service organiza tion . The track offered a deep loam racing surface with no dust! Laid ou t running inside and outside the old high banked stock ca r tra ck, th e rac ers were challenged by a very wide (30'·40') track with m any off-camber sections and some high speed stra ights that let even th e most throttle hungry stretch th e cable to the max . N a tion al m otocross star Pat Richter was on hand to view th e d ay's racing and made the comment that the track was very well prepared for a first effort and offered on ly a few suggestions for ch ange . Perhaps the best com m ent made by Pat was that th e races at Ukiah wer e a fine return to local grass roots level motocross whi ch is good to see in thes e days of high costs of traveling long d istances to race . T he day's ra cing lent itself to very sp o rtsm a n like co n d u ct am ong the racers with excellen t com petition in every mot o. The 125 Junior cla ss was. very hotl y contested and highlighted by a very good come-from-behind ride by Tim McK eever. The 250 and 500 Junior classes were ma rked by exce llent rides by Steve Enzler (250 Mai ) and John Thompson on a 410cc Honda four-stroke. The only classes that were lacking in rider su pport were in the expert ranks and seeing as how this is a se mi -pro event , some enterprising experts co uld stand to pick up some extra ca sh , if they show upl An added attraction was in the Honda Odyssey motos , They provided good racing m uch to the delight of the spe ctators. Any of you Od yssey owners are welcome to come to Ukiah Raceway to sample the competition . T he next motocross at Ukiah Raceway will be held on November 27, 1977 . Don nie "Can-heloop-it" ho leshot th is one but Turner was close behind. O n the uphill near the start area, Turner went down , quickly got restarted , but had put a big ga p between him and Ca ntaloupi.
