John got up and got going again only to crash into a-haybale two turns later, when he discovered that his rear brake pedal was bent into an inoperative position. Emde coasted into the pits at the end of that lap with motor trouble, and Code rolled in six laps later, after a fuel line came loose. By then, Dennis Smith (850 Suz, 86 mph avg.) was eight seconds ahead of Billy Addington (850 Moto-Guzzi) , who had been dicing with Code for second. Tom Ballantyne (595cc Suz) later came out and won the under 600cc Supentreet race on the bike Glover had crashed twice . T hr ee teams ba ttled back and forth for the lead in the Sidecar race. While they were squeezing th rough int o the lead , the Co leman/Andrews Suzuki collided with on e of the other ha cks and the damage forced them out of the rac e and back into the pits. W ith the fin ish line located between th e second and third turns, t he Gipe/Essatt BMW took to the insid e of tum on e and grabbed the lead, onl y to . get into the final 90· left-bander too hard and spin off into the d irt , allowing last year's Sidecar ch am pions Lougee ,,;nd Hough (Kaw) to slip on by for th ewm.
