Action in the 25 0 Ju n io r class saw Mark Fitzgerald (Sono ra) taki ng first after a 1·2 ride. T here was some heavy competition in th e 125 Intermediate race but it was all behind two bea u tifu l rides by Steve Asa (Cerritos). Steve built a sizeable lead and never looked ba ck . Mark Darnell (Cerri tos), Steve Ashlock (Gard e n G ro ve ) and J eff Bottema (Gahr) swa p ped p ositions to finish overa ll in that order. In th e 125 J u nior Division One race Nea l Mo fhi tz's (University) first moto win was shot whe n he was un able to sta rt the second motor Da n Ba rt holomews (j oh nse n) came across first fo r seco nd overall, and Mike Osenbaugh (Walnut) ran a consistant second in both rnotos, taking first. Mike Ingram (Cerritos) took third. In spite of some heavy competition in the forms of Mike Dickherber (Suz) , Sue Fish (Yam) and Doug McGowen (Hon), he went to an impressive two moto victory. In moto one, it was Hubbs from start to finish . Dickherber, who took last week's race, hung on tightly to Hubbs' shirttails for the first few laps, but then began to fall back . He seemed well situated in second place by the sixth lap , but then lost control on a difficult off-camber section. He got up and remounted in time to save his position, but it allowed Ken Buirley (Yam) to catch u p . ihe two battled for second p lace througho ut the following la ps, with Dickherber holding a slight edge. Sue Fish got off - to a b ad start , but ha d , by this time, worked her way up to fourth place. At the finish line, it was Hubbs, wit h a strong lead over Dickherber . Buirley followed closely in third, ahead of Fish a nd Kip Pierce (Yam) . In the next race, it was the same or der, With Doug McGowen in fifth . In ro und one, McGowen had crashed early in the race, and his luck was no better in this one. Before one lap was over, the GTE rider had dropped out, leaving the leaders to race one another. Hubbs was out front once more , giving no one else a chance. Dickherber remained in second until the sixth lap, when Buirley moved around him. Buirley and his Yamaha stayed in second for a few laps, then, for unknown reasons , dropped out of the race. This put Dickherber back in second and moved Fish up to third . That's the way they finished and how the overall standings went. The 250 Pros had an interesting r a ce a s well. D re w Nelson (Suz) grabbed the holeshot in the first moto and began to stretch it out. O n the sixth lap , however , his p lans went down the drain whe n his bike seized . He sat on his disabled mount and wa tc hed with frustration as his lead went to Tim W el ke r (Suz). Monte McCoy (Yam) was moving up fast after a less than desirable start. By the ninth lap, he ha d moved into second pl ace , with on ly a few la p ped riders between himself and the leader. By the en d of the ra ce . he had closed the distance to nothing b u t couldn't m an age to take over the lead. The finishing order of moto one was Welker, McCoy, Kurt Sofka (C-A), Don Simonian (Suz) a na Larry Ripley (Yam) . In moto two, Welker held the lead for one lap before McCoy got arou nd him . From there on in , it was a one man show . On lap three, Arden Hadley (Mai), who finished seventh in moto one , took over second. T he rolled across the finish line in that o rder . with Sofka in fo urth ana Simonian in fifth . In the overall standings, McCoy came out on top with Welker taking second place money. Sofka got third and Hadley was fourth . The California Racing Club will now be putting on the races at DeAnza on a weekly basis . Their plans for tlie future include a points system for tlie members and a few big cash events for the pros. Resu lts in Resul ts Section.
