OCT. 16 California Racing Club put on a great day of variety racing, starting off with their regular Sunday motocross. One of th e good ra ces was the 125 Pro class. as Mark Lawren ce again to ok the overall win . Second was taken home by Gary Scheidler (Yam) a nd third wen t to Brad Bucks (Suz). A new face was seen in the 125 Pro class' today. It was the 1977 Women's : Champion Su e Fish . showing the guys sh e is good enough to r ace with them. Sue may no t have finis hed well enoug h to get into the money. but ninth overall is very impressi ve fo r a gi rl ridi ng in a m en's Pro cl ass. For the 250 Intermediates it was CRC's own Donald Draskovich on a Can-Am taking home another firs t overall . Second went home wit h Peter Snort el and (Suz) and Yamaha mounted Joe Johnson got third . Another good race was among Mark Gambetta, John Atwood and Tracy Oswell in the 250 Pro class. In the first moto Gambetta finished first with a hard challenging Atwood in . second and Eddie "Stylistic" Cole finishing third. Fourth was brought in by Tracy Oswell. In the second moto Gambetta pulled out another first and the overall win. This time Atwood was not in second. Oswell was there to take second and second overall . Third went to Eddie Cole who went 3-3 and to ok third place m oney. Aft er th e m oto cross wa s over th er e was a sma ll break a nd then the 90minute Team R ace . First off the line we re th e Iro n Men . with riders like Dean Taylor and Ron Gibson wh o would go the whole 90 minutes alone and only sto p for gas . Darrel Anderso n was running second wit h Mike Prunty hot on. his heels in third . Prunty went down off th e d ro p -off and J im Stewart got by. Coming d own into th e wh ite flag lap . Hackman too k ove r third an d ch alle nge d , Ande rson for second. At t he flag, Hackman clo sed in an d pu sh ed his wa y into second as Whit e held o n to his lead . Second time aro un'd it wa s a H a ckman. White battle a ll the way. White had the lead wit h Hackman breathing down h is jersey , nudging hi m all around the track. On the la st lap Hackman moved by for the lead and managed to hold White in second at the che ckere d flag . H ackman took the o verall win, Whit e p ick ed up second and third went to Anderson . John O 'Mara took the 125 Pros. In t he first mota Joe Root grabbed t he lead with Jerry Shore and O 'Mara closing fas t. O 'Mara moved into second and a tight battle developed among O 'Mara , Root and Bob Ramsey for third. Heading in for the checkered flag . Root took the moto win with O 'Mara second and Ramsey third . The second time around , Root again took over but almost lost it in the first tum with Kirk Srurgeon hot o n his tail. O 'M ara m oved into seco nd and once mo re a Ro ot -O 'Mara ba ttl e took place . In his first pro race Bill Sek eres was ho lding off Bob Ramsey and Bill Robert so n .
