Wrig ht I:' I:' EL PASO, TX , OCT. 16 Star Track in EI Paso started its daytime motocross season with a longer track than the night course and 20 minutes plus one lap motos for pros and 15 minutes plus one lap for amateurs. New Mexico's fast guy Scott Logston won five out of six pro motes, Another Las Cruces rider Mike Haynes dominated the 125 and 250 amateurs winning all four motos , 500 Pro action had Scott Logston (Yam) launch the holeshot in the first moto and go on to win with a comfortable margin over Flyin ' Ryan Armitage (Mai) who rode a good race despite crashing with a stuck throttle and working his way back up to second. Logston took the second moto holeshot also and stretched his lead out by over a minute ahead of Armitage in second, almost lapping third place Marco Martin (Mai). In the 250 Pro action Logston led from the start to the finish. E1 Paso 's Maby McIntyre (Yam ) crashed on the first lap but rode hard to overtake second at the finish followed by Lloyd Olson (Pen). The second moto saw rivals Logston and McIntyre go down the start straight neck toneck. Neither rider was about to be the first to shut down . As they tangled handlebars going into the first turn, Logston was the first to shut off, knowing his limits. Mac was unable to make the turn and slid out. Logston bobbled but was back in second place behind EI Paso 's Shaun Perrero (Yam). Logston took the lead on the first lap making it look like it was going to be another runaway. However, Mac hadn't lost much ground when -he fell and moved into second on the second lap. Mac p ut on a charge and cut Logston's lead from 15 seconds to four seconds at the finish but that was as close as he could get. Perrero held third. Maby McIntyre pulled the ho leshot in the 125 Pro first moto and held it to the finish. Logston's engine started missing at the start but he managed to nurse it along through the pack for a well deserved second. Dea n Ulve (Yam) , who had second, dropped to third . McIntyre took the second moto holeshot with Logston right behind after fixing his FMF Yamaha between motos . Everyone thought he was too tired after five motos to challenge Mac. But Logston got a second wind from somewhere and the two put on one of their famous battles 'until two laps from the end when Logston took the lead and held it to the finish , winning the overalI in all the pro classes . Thirty seconds behind Logston and Mac, Joel Craig and Dean Ulve fought a similar battle for third with Ulve on top at the finish . In the amateur division Mike Haynes (Yam) of Las Cruces won both motos of the 125 class, but not without some trouble from Robert Martin (Yam) who lives up the street from Mike . In the first moto Martin stayed near Haynes almost the whole moto until his bike quit. In the second moto Martin led with Haynes in hot pu rsuit until near the end of the moto when Haynes hit Martin and both went down . Martin was unable to continue. Ha ynes also won both motos of th e 250 class with his only competition from still another Las Cruces rider Sam Hancock (Mai) who took second.
