Championship ser ies. Marland didn't get his new short-stroke Honda in Tulsa 'Until early Saturday morning after it was held up at customs in California. He had ridden his practice bike in Colorado the previous Sunday and sure missed his short stroker. Bernie Schreiber was close behind Marland all day and finally finished with a total of 16 penalty points. five behind Marland's 11. A disastrous five in section 17 proved to be the difference between second and first for Bernie. Don Sweet (30), Lane Leavitt (32) and Tom McKinnery III (37) finished in the top five places. Bob Hopkins (45). Mark Eggar (46) . Bill Burgener (48),Jack Stites (48) and Terry Cheney (49) rounded out the top 10. The six-mile loop contained challenging sections which were ridden two times by each national rider. Sections 14 and 19 were the two hardest sections .for the competitors. Section 14 was cleaned on ly three times a ll day long ; once each by DOl i Sweet. Bo b Hopkins and Martin Belai r. Section 19 had on ly one clean , Marland Whaley. .0 Wiltz Wagoner was the victor in di e. Senior class and John Miller won the Support class . Mike McCa'be did an excellent job putting together the event , which was enjoyed by all. :iQ
