The next time around Luke Messer had the front slot. Boyer . Miller. Marino and Bill Jewell (MotoMeister) were in hot pursuit. On the fifth la p Boyer came flying over the drop-away first ; Messer was out. Boyer had the lead for three laps only to be replaced by Marino . Maxwell . Chaffee. Gary Pustelak (Suz) an d White finished the' moto in the next places. Marino got the overall win . Suzuki of Pomona's Ga ry De nton did his usua l ho leshot n um ber an d blasted off the line to lea d and win the firs t 250 Pro moto .. Clark J on es (Suz) held second place for the entire ra ce . Tim Lunde (Yam) and Boyer (Suz) got into an unreal battle. T hey were ne ver more than a few inches. ahe ad of or be hind each ot her . Tim was the third place rider for five la ps then Boyer got around Lunde and held third for the next three laps. Lunde was quick on the wick to re-take the position. On the last lap . as the two wide 'open riders were slamming off the downhill . Boyer managed to get around Lunde to cross the finish line just a fraction of an inch ahead of him . Doug Boyd (Suz) . _Cole Bros. Maico rider Wes Sutton . Dave Eropkin (Yam) and Dan Steele finished next. Clark Jones was the first one around the Suzuki tower in the second race. Jones was riding hard and ~ast but. the Suzuki of Denton seemed Just a little faster on the uphill where the lead changed. Boyer ana Lunde were again the hot d uo for dicing. On the fourth lap Boyer dumped his machine an~ Lunde swooped by and began his assault on Jones . The next time around J ones was able to get by. Denton in the tight turn under the Suzuki Bridge only to slide out in the gully and have both Denton and Lunde flas h by. When the checkers came out Denton had the win with .Lu nde . Jones. Boyer. Boyd . .Sut~on and Steele filing across ' the finish line after him . Denton ' took home the largest part of the m oney with Jones and Lunde getting the next payback. When the 125 Prosgot goi ng it was .with CBS rider Mike Pillar in the lead and the FMF Rocket Jeff Ward right on his knobby. J eff had the lead by the time the riders approached the ' ledge. Gary Denton took Jeffs place as they flew off the downhill. Denton was cooking. Ward was pushing him hard and FMFs Cliff Lett was looking to get by both of them . Tony Wanket (Yam) and still another FMF pilot. Ra ndy Hess . were a few places back in the pack but rapidly advancing. Lett got the lead away from Denton and began to open up the dist~nce betwee? himself and the other riders when hIS pipe broke putting him out of action . Wanket then whipped by Dent on . Hess was beginning his assault when suddenly h e was .encased in billows of white smoke - a rod through the case ha d stopped him short. Tony just held his machine wide open and rode without faul t for an unbeatable lead - and m otowin . Denton and W a rd had the seco nd and third slots locked up with Steve Bauer (Suz) . Bob Stem (Yam) and the newest of . the Roo riders . Tony Gomez. crossing next. Gary Denton started the last of the 125 Pro business only to have Steve Bauer capture the lead before the first . lap was half over. Bauer held on to the · front position until T ony Wanket got to h is favorite. position . . . the head of th e pa ck . Bauer rod e second for a few laps . holding Denton to th ird .
