A radical battle erupted among the three and no one was going anywhere. DeLey finally made the same mistake as Turner and let three riders by . Turner went by Dornann on the II th lap and never let it slip away. In back of the leaders. Tim Tolar was putting on a show as he flew past the pack and picked up DeLey for third. In the second moto Turner pulled a nother holeshot , but could not get rid of Domann . T hese two 'went the entire race with no more than a lapped rider separating them . Tolar stayed right in the game and never gave either rider a chance for a mistake. At the flag it was Turner, Domann and Tolar. Dan Williams swept both motos of the Open Pros with only lapped riders in his way. Mark Rod m a n played catch up for two motos but could not reel in Williams. Minnig and Lawson split Corona money By Elaine Jones CO RONA, CA , OCT . 12 Mike Minnig and Eddie Lawson took home the go ld Wednesday night as each one ca ptured their respective Money races. 20 Mannig was the first one to hit as he outrode everyone in the Money short track. Minnig was first off the line with Don Tortorelli in second and ' Rob Selvy third. On the third lap Selvy got under Tortore lli to m ove into second whi le .J eff Allison , hold ing in fourt h started putting p ressu re on Tortorelli. Mi nnig was still wailing with a comfortable lead while Selvy tried to get close enough to challenge as they reached the half way point in the 10, lapper. Back in the pack, Allison 'who had been frustrated in his attempt to get by Tortorelli, finally got his chance as the white flag came out and he moved into the show spot to make it Minnig, Selvy a nd Allison at the checkered. Eddie Lawson flat b lew away the Mo ney half mi le boys dropping his lap time from last week's with a 22.46. Rich Vol II. came off right behind Lawson with Jeff Alliso n ho lding off Don Tortorelli for third. The third lap had just been completed when Tortorelli's engine went sour and he was out. Craig Armstrong moved into fourth and worked on Allison for eight laps before he wore him down and moved into third. When the dust had settled it was the ' Butch Silva-owned and tuned Yamaha with Lawson aboard in the winner's circle with Vol II. seco nd and Armstrong third . Lawson also claimed the Open Ama teur /Expert half m il e wit h a nother wire -to -wire romp . Dorothy Rowe jumped into second spot with Steve Loomis behind . her. By the second lap Rich Volk had come from last to move into third but it took him four more laps before he could get around Dorothy and take over second. Time ran out and he had to settle for Radical Ron rips upAMC Sadd/eback second behind Lawson with Dorothy third . OCT. 8-9 Rocks were the m ain course for riders at the Red Mountain enduro. A little dust , sand and more rocks were thrown in , making it more interesting a nd a good time keeper. The roc ks were t he ma in topic for bench racers . About two miles fro m the finish of the 25 ·mile first loop was the perfect spot to observe riders in a surprise situation. After smooth trail riding at 26 m .p.h . . the trail went over and eight-foot embankment landing in a short. soft sandwash. . Bob Mandic was the first rider~ to appear over the ba nk and he was smooth as glass. On his rear knobby was Curtis Crivelli who wasn't quite as graceful. He grabbed a little brake and let out a loud " W a -hoo" then he blasted after Mandie. . As the last of line one faded away, Tom Kennedy, the n umber one plate holder in the 175 class, came over the hill and he and his Pent on performed flaw lessly. He gavethe peace sign and gassed it on toward the finish. It was now time for line three; which included Mike Goodwin who has been battling with Kennedy ' for that
