Ohl got the better of the two. 8reker blitzes CRC DeAnzaMX By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD. CA . OCT. 2 Eddie Michetti and the CRC gang were out at DeAnza again. This time the best race of the day was the 250' Pro class. At the .. 26 top of the entry list were Goat Breker (Hus). Danny Jean (Suz), who is now riding for Cross-Up. Inc., and Dave Eroplr.in (Yam). As they shot out of the hole and through the first tum, Jean had the edge over Dave Ohl (Suz), who was followed by Breker and Scott Smith (Oss). By the third lap, Jean had pulled an enormous lead. Ohl was doing his best to hold second place against a hard-charging Breker, but the Husky pilot passed Ohl , then set out after Jean. Eroplr.in, who ran in to trouble on the first lap. was hard at work, trying to make up lost time. On the fourth lap he was in seventh place. On the seventh time around, he passed Ohl for third . After that, his advancement came to a halt. Jean and Breker were just too far gone. By this time. Breker had chopped Jean's lead down to size. but he was still not close enough to offer a serious challenge. The race continued right down to the line. but Jean held the advantage. Breker wasn't about to play second knobby again in the next round . He grabbed the holeshot and took off with it . Jean kept pace with him for the first few laps. then gradually began to lose ground. Eroplr.in was once again in third . followed by Ohl and Floyd Burk (Yam). The race continued and the riders spread out evenly. By the last lap. Breker had a comfortable lead. as well as the overall win, in his back pocket. As they crossed the line, the order was Breker, Jean, Eropkin, Ohl, and Smith. The overall standings were the same. In the 125 Pro class, it was once again a battle between Patrick Hubbs and Clint Cannan. both mounted on Suzukis , Hubbs led both motos from start to finish. but he never got more than five seconds ahead of Cannan. Mike Dickherber, who just recovered from several broken ribs , turned in a great ride to take third ahead of Bill Jewett (Yam). Open Pro Mark Ellis (Yam) got his over-due win at the cost of Ken Taylor. Taylor Ied .the first moto all the way, but a slipping clutch in the second bout pulled him out of the top money and put him in second ahead of Tom Taylor (Yam). Results in Results Section. lannings jams, Haugh hustles, and Sturgeon takes the bait at AME MX By Lee Taylor VALENCIA. CA, SEPT. 50 Andyjannings (Yam-Bill Krause) racked up back to back wins in the 500 Pro class. In the first moto, jannings grabbed the lead with Dave Haugh in second. Mark White (Hus-Simi Yam) ran third. _White 'thallenged Haugh for second and moved by. Haugh and White were bearing down hard, going after Jannings. White moved up alongside Jannings, but Jannings held on to his lead. White went outside trying to take over the lead from Jannings. and heading into the white flag lap. Asher was out to take Haugh any way he could. Coming across the finish Jannings held the lead. White took second and Haugh held onto third over Asher. in fourth. The second time around was a rerun, with Jannings winning, followed by White in second and Haugh running third. Dave Haugh took control of the 250 Pros for the overall victory . In the first moro, Mike Shoemaker took the lead. Doug Nicol held second and Dave Haugh ran third. Nicol dropped back. relinquishing his position to Haugh, while Andy Jannings took over third. Shoemaker opened up a beautiful lead which he held throughout the rnoto . Haugh held second place and Jannings third. The second time around, Haugh took over on the start with Nicol running second. The battle of the moro was between Asher and Shoemaker for third. Jannings soon joined ranks with Shoemaker in the bid for third and together they kept tremendous pressure on Asher. Shoemaker pulled side by side to Asher, when Asher went wide to the outside, Shoemaker, on the inside, was right on top of Asher . Haugh opened up a lead for himself with Nicol riding a strong second. The battle between Shoemaker and Asher went right down to the wire. side by side , wheels banging into th e turns. Haugh crossed over to top money for the night, Shoem aker took second place and third went to Nicol. Kirk Sturgeon took the 125 Pros. In the first moto, John O'Mara (SuzO'Mara) piloted his Suzuki into the lead. Kirk Sturgeon was holding second with Jerry Shore in third and Bob Ramsey fourth. Paul Lane, fifth, was closing behind Ramsey. The fight of the evening continued between O'Mara and Sturgeon, right down to the wire. Sturgeon closed the gap , almost losing control. Sturgeon took a flying leap off a jump and just barely hung on. Shore was closing fast on Sturgeon. O'Mara opened his lead a bit. Now Sturgeon had Shore to worry about. All three of the forerunners tightened up considerably and were all within passing distance of each other. On his white flag lap, O'Mara opened up his lead. Coming down for the checkered flag the Sturgeon-Shore battle continued. Crossing the line for the checkered flag. O'Mara held steady in the lead, Sturgeon was there for second and Shore crossed over in third . The second time around Sturgeon led off the line with Ramsey running second. Paul Lane third. O'Mara went off the side of the track but got back in the race and into fourth. Sturgeon had a wide-open lead. By the time the checkered flag came out, Sturgeon sailed across for the win . O'Mara cla imed second overall and third went to Lane. Results in Results Section. AMEMX: Saturday night is alright for fightin' By Lee Taylo r BAKERSFIELD. CA . OCT. 1 Andy jannings continued his winning streak by racking up another pair of wins in the 500 . Pro class. On the start of .the first rnoto Jannings took control with Dave Haugh in second. Having bike trouble, Haugh fell back to fourth as Steve Rawson moved into second with Dean Taylor third . Jannings opened up a fantastic lead with Rawson holding second. Haugh got back in third. Taylor, having problems with his Montesa, pulled off and out of the race. Jannings now had not even a sign of his competitors. A battle had now developed between Rawson and Haugh for second. Haugh got second and tried to close on Jannings. Heading into th e checkered flag Jannings held the lead with Haugh taking second and Rawson third.. The second time off the line. Haugh jumped into the lead with Jannings second and Taylor in third. Throughout the first half of the moto Jannings was pushing Haugh relentlessly. Jannings made it by and opened up his lead. Rawson , now in third was closing on Haugh. Taylor again dropped out of the race . Coming in for the checkered flag, Jannings took top money. Haugh second overall and Rawson third. Once again spectators were treated to some wild and wooly racing by a large field of side cars. The team of R. Whitney/ R . Jones, on a Norton Eagle, banged their way to victory after two rough motos. In the first rnoro, the Langost team broke into the lead. The Whitney team took the lead as the Palfreyman team moved into second. The R. Whimey/R . Jones team pushed hard and moved into third. Heading into the white flag lap, the Whitney s held on to the lead WIth the Palfreyman team in second and the Whitney/Jones team third. When they charged off the line for the second moto , the Meillo team bounced into the lead followed by the Whitney/Jones team . The field turned into an obstacle course with side cars turning over right and left. The battle was on for first , second and third place. The Whitney/Jones team held second and theJ.T. Whitney team ran third . The R. Whitney team took the lead coming up out of the gully, wheels banging and monkeys hanging on for deal life! The J.T. Whitney team pulled back with problems and the Meillo team moved into second. At the checke~ed flag , it was touch and go for the win. Crossing the line , the Whitney/Jones team took the overall win, second went to J. Palfreyman and J. Gardner and third to J.T. Whitney and P. Whitney. Results in Results Section. Dale finishes last, still wins at CMC Irwindale By Tom Corley IRWINDALE. CA , SEPT. 16 There were only four competitors in the 125 Pro class - surprising because this has always been a hot class. What CMC did was run the 125 Pros at the same time as the 250 class, so it proved to be qu ite interesting. Motorcycle Supply ace Craig Dale claimed the 125 Pro bucks as he successfully downed the competition, starting off with a
