Ric Secor were "II . bunched two points apart for third place. When it .was over, Carter had bested Lynas by one position . The 125 Juniors had a total of 156 riders during the series and the 250 ' Juniors matched 123 riders. It was just like the old days with 50 500 Juniors battling it out. Wes Ma ine (Suz) was almost unbeatable until late season and coasted to an easy first over late closing Craig Infeld (KTM) . Three outstanding new Interrnedi ate riders on Yamaha - Don Fuller in the 125s, Skip Wamsley in the 250s and Frank Duran in the 500s won championships. 125 Pros produced the best battle, with Yamaha -mounted Terry Shekell topping last year's champ John Tessitore. . N ew pro Tony Gomez served notice of things to come with a fine third after m oving u p in midseason. Da ve Gerig had it all his way in the 50Ds. New 500 Pro Ch ris Cha ffee had a wh irlw ind three straight win st reak , which b rou g ht him in second in th e final st andings ; and since he was onl y two po in ts back in tlte intermedia tes when he moved up, he still finished third in that division for the year! Dave Haugh took th e lead in the first mota with Kurt' Bledsoe right behind him , Ken Zahrt (Bu l) in th ird and Jannings running fourth. H augh managed to stretch ou t a nice lead for himself as a tight race for thi rd developed between J annings , Steve Kelso and Dean Taylor (Mon- Viva Dist .). Zahrt had started to close on Haugh and was right on top of him . Bledsoe moved into third and held his position through the end of the moto , The second time off the line , Jannings took control with Bledsoe in second , Haugh running ' third arid Zahrt in fourth . Zahrt, moving up fast , took over third with Bledsoe fighting to hold him off. When the winning checkered flag came out, J annings flew across the line for top m oney in his class, Bledsoe to ok second overall and third went to Zahrt. For the 250 Pros, Mike Shoem~ker (Ya m-Shoemaker & Int.
