CA , SEPT. 3 A special group of six-motocrossers joined togethe r to form their own cl ass at Elsinore's n igh t TT , Hon da -mounted Chris Rogers was 14 (Continued f rom page 9) th e wh ite flag lap, Kline was in t rou b le . Pillar took th e over all win . second went to O 'Mara and third to Arnet . Rick Guilmette (Suz-Aircone) all but burned up the track in th e 250 Intermediate class, ta king the overall win . In the first moto , he had Jeff Spoor, (Suz-Spoo rs Sheet Metal) in front of him and he tried everything he knew to get by with no luck .The second tim e around , Guilmette led the ' pack up the hill : not too shabby for his secon d time out on a 250 . He had Mark Nation on his trail. Nation 'fina lly moved on by for the lead and Gailmette had his hands full holding off Spoor, Greg Torgerson and Steve Clark . When the winning checkered flag came out , Guilmette netted the overa ll, Spoor took seco nd and th ird went to Clark. The 250 Pros had everyone up to th e fence to see Donnie Hansen take the class after some heavy riding against Gary Denton, Mark Gambetta and Dave Haugh. In th e first mota , Denton was in command with Gambetta running second and Han sen ( Ya m Shoemaker's) in th ird . Denton had a fairl y good lead wh e n Gambetta started closing in . Hansen was right up behind Gambetta. Denton hit tr ouble when he turned sidewa ys in the whoop-de-doos headin g along the fence line, then lost his lead to Gambetta in the sweeper approach turn to the drop-offs ,Da ve Haugh (Sur- Cole Bros. ) was do ing som e heavy dicing with Ernie Hendricks for fourth and these two kept it up til the end of the mota. Hansen was staying close to Denton and got past when Denton dropped back with bike problems.Gambetta moved int o the lead on the back stretch and held it to th e end. The second time around , Hansen grabbed the holeshot with Gambetta ' behind him. Haugh in third and Shoemaker running fourth. Hansen held command and wouldn't give Gambetta an inch . At the end of the moto Hansen rode into the winners circle for th e overall win . Garnbetta was there for second and Haugh took th ird . • Results in Result Section the moto one victor. He got the lead from the sta rt and held it to the finish . Jeff Sloan a nd Robert Fr ogu e dueled for second a nd . by the seco nd lap , Slo an h ad overta ken - Frogue a n d followed in Ro gers' wa ke . Frogue had checkered flags in his eyes the seco nd go . as he jum ped off th e lin e to a sizea ble lead a nd eas ily pulled off the win . There was quite a ta nk sla p pe r on lap four and all but two rid er s ended up in a heap of tires a n d mot ocross gea r . Yamaha mounted Frogue was fa r eno ugh out fro nt to avoid t he collision and Ken Ap lanalp (Ma i) dodged th e d iving rid er s and these two finis hed in that or der. Only three rid ers came ba ck to take on th e TT track for. moto three and it was agai n Frogue who took th e first , a nd the Team Moto trophy. Apl analp was seco nd th is race and Chris Rogers was thi rd . Amateur James Morris. aboard a 400 Yamaha . j ust inched his way into t he vict ory ci rcle by finis hing th ird , secon d, a n d first in the Ope n Ama teur/Expert ra ce . Hemet 's ex pe rt , Mike Montgom ery h a d a 'com m a nd ing lead in th e first moto and let the other open bikes eat his dust. Amateur Bud Wanbaugh was next in lin e . Amateur Mik e Montg omery from San Diego was stu ck in a tra ffic jam , a nd was very di sappo inted with t he fifth place which cost him some very valuable po ints toward th e series. In the second moto , Montgomery (am a teu r) was third a fte r he worked his wa y th is way and that to obtain it , whi ch was the best he cou ld do this tim e . Expert Mike Montgomery also had his work cu t out for him. Morris had th e lead. and wasn't going to give it up with out a struggle. On lap three . Mike set Morris up for t he kill and at t he precise moment , he got around Morris and took th e win . Morris won the fin al ra ce wh ich clinche d his overa ll win . Mik e (the expe rt) was second .for on e short lap but he go t into some trouble and en ded up lim pi ng in in last place. Mike (the amateur) was the number two man and Dwa yne Lock followed in third . The overall positioning was Morris, Montgomery (e x pert) , and Montgomery (am a teu r). • Results in Results Section . Sauer, Nelson and Callaway take CRCcash By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD , CA, SEPT. 4 With the nationals over and done with, Harly-Davidson's Rex Staten opted to come out to DeAnza MX and see what the local 250 Pro competition was like . He was met by Alaska 's Pat Snyder (SUl) , Dr ew Nelson (SUl) a nd a field of CRC and DeAnza regu lars. At th e start of moto one ; the fans lin ed the track and waited for The Rocket to do his thing, but they d idn 't get what they expected . Dave Ohl (SUl) got the holeshot. but quickly fad ed with mechanical problems. Staten was back in sixth while Sn yder enjoyed the lead. On the next lap , Staten was in third, and moving up. The third lap held some bad luck for Harley 's ace when his bright orange mount came to a sudden halt . The piston ring wasted itself. By lap six, Nelson secured the lead. Sn yde r and Jacobs were battling for second, but Sn yder held the edge at th e checkered flag. , . In moto two , Nelson shot int o the lead and was never anywhere else. Sn yder and Jacobs wer e once again battling fo r second . Again , witli Snyder on top . • Open pros waged an exciting battle between Mark Ellis and Kelly Callaway, 'both on Yamahas . Moto one saw Ellis take an earl y lead. Callaway couldn't put it together and had to settle for second . Huskymounted Gary Shipy was third to cross th e line ahead of M. Smith (Yarn), Second round action saw Ellis again take the lead. This time Cal1away waS ready to do battle. He came from behind to cha lla nge Ellis on lap seven. The two engaged in an exciting duel for fiv e laps . Callaway final1y got around Ellis with only two ) a p s remaining. Shipy again was third . 125 Experts were taken by Steve Bauer (SUl) in both motos . Cl int Carman (Yam) was at it with Mark
