For Laws on it was a wir e-to -wire victory. bu t it wasn't as easy as it sounds because right behind him were two riders hungry' to take it away . Bob Selvy broke in th e second position off the lin e with ,Gleason ridin g doub le with him and James a very close fou rt h. The second lap James made a spe ctacul a r move that pu t h im in second and a lap later Gleason ' had dropped Selvy to fourth. It took seven mo re laps for Gleason to find his way . around James , but th e road did op en on the last lap and h e was able to come up with th e second . . Rob Selvy had a beautiful ride in the 250cc Expert half mile . Everything was working for h im from start to finish. Lee H ales, (C·A) held off a stro ng chall enge fro m Jeff Johnson to take th e second . ' J ohnson h~ s had hi s share o f m echanical problems, but everything was going his wa y ' in ,t he 250cc AM /Ex p ert ' TT . T om Hughes , looking to re pea t his last TT victory, jumped int o second and wen t looking for J ohnson , Prob lems took Hughes ou t on th e last la p a nd Lee H al es was there to claim the second.
