By Russ Sanford The green-sticker (O HV registration) financed motorcycle park at Gorman. Calif. moved closer to reality last week when the California State Senate approved Assembly Bill 1098 by a 27 to 2 vote . The bill. authored by Assemblyman Larry Chimbole , ,was immediately forwarded to Governor Jerry Brown for approval. Of course, the govc;rnor , could veto the bill . thus dashing the hopes of off'-road vehicle (ORV) enthusiasts throughout the Los Angeles Basin. This site. totalling about 19.000 acres. could be available for use by ORV enthusiasts in about one year following a number of yet required actions by the Department of Parks and Recreation . General Services . and the State Public Works Department. , However . before this can happen . AB1098 must be approved by the Governor . . . and time is.of the essence! A companion Senate Bill by Senator Alan Robbins. carries almost identical wording to Assembly Bill 1098 . However. SB592 carries two additional items that were not in ABI098 and must be incorporated to avoid slowing the DRV Project down for another year. As we all know. the areas of public land tha t ORV enthusiastscan use are rapidly shrinking. The Gorman site . known as "Hungry Valley" may well be one of the few remaining places for such activity in a few short years . For this reason. it is absolutely imperative, that each of us write a letter to the govern or asking for his approval of both ABI098 and SB592 . Here are some items that you can include in your letter: 1. Thank the governor for including the sum of $8 million in his budget for the ORV facility at Hungry Valley.
