Volunteer 1978 Trans-AMA If you race , or have a tea m , or sell products to the pros and the public , you have a stake in whether or no t Ca lifornia will have American Motorcyclist Assn , (AMA) National and Trans-AMA racing next year. A volunteer program is underway to support tWO Q ua lifiers to be held August 14 and September 11 at Racing World. These alone will make possible AMA pro racing in the State for '78 . Performance. Dur alube, DG Southland Cycle and others have donated money, but more help is needed . Contributions are being accepted by Lois at (714) 581 ·6400 . Pro racing is an unlikely subject for a drive. but it is because a qualifier is hard to present. AMA takes all entry fees , a $600 official's fee. and requires $1 ,800 in purses ($600 'for 125cc. 250cc and Open). Advertising is another cost . T wo such races must be funded. No profit will be made by Ra cing World. Tri-Cross Productions or New Media, the com pa nies invo lved ; they are seeking major racing for next year. Participants will be noted in advertising' and publicity. although support is expected to be based more on a widespread desire for pro racing [0 continue in Ca liforn ia . CA Night rider mentality I don't know who on your staff was responsible for the Papa Wealey item in the August 10 issue which suggests vandalism at the homes of Sierra Club leaders . but I do know what I'm inclined to say to him if I find out.
