Alex 's first was rel atively easy as h e pla ced well in each event he rode , bu t Kim was fo rced to win the 250 Ma in tonight and hope Ha ney did not p lace too high in order to grab seco nd . The you nge r j orgensen also blasted th e troops in tfie Kin g R ace tonight to take home th e largest part of the expert mon ey. Mike's stronges t challenge came from Sal inas novice Kelly Fischer who did no t. ride here tonight a nd thus left Mike an easy victor. A win by Pugh wou ld have given Aust in th e first based o n most wins. Stock ton's Fr ed Merkel , Lodi 's Ha l Hook , a nd Nic k J a con ett i ,of t he Chico a rea took the 125 , 175 , a nd 200 honors respect ively. JuniorsJim Felice , Ra fe Hea th , and Steve AIberd i topped the 250 , 360 , and 500 classes. Felice received a little help from th e m easles as Brad Summers was unable to co m p lete last week and Jimbo responded with a win to put his trophy out of reach. Heath, however , ba ttl ed with fellow clu b rider Ken Bu rt on down to the ~i re. Bot h won their he at s tonight but on ly Heath could place in the mai n . Alberdi's 'consistency and a ttend a nce paid off as he to p ped.the 360 's to nigh t and gained enough points 'to overha ul Brad Gofort h who won a sm all class. British Columbia , won both heats. He was clocked a t I m inute , 33 .4 seco nds in the first -heat for a n unoffi cia l tra ck record for motorcycles ' on the 2.25 m ile co u rse . Bru ce Lin d . a lso ridi ng a TZ750. c ha lle nged McRae in the first heat . bu t decided to sa ve his ma chine and sett led for second. The second heat was on e of the day's best. as J im Dun n on his TZ750 mon osh ock di ced with McR ae and Lind . Du nn was lat e to t he track aft er wor king a ll night getting his bi ke toge ther. T his fo rced Dunn to miss the first heat. The last heat was cu t to four laps because of a 5:00 p.m . noise curfew at S.1.R. Lind too k th e lea d in the first lap , followed by Dunn and McR ae . Dun n showed ou tstandi ng sty le as he too k th e lead in lap two . ho ld ing it unt il McRae m ade a drive on him in th e last turn . It was a thrill to see two T Z750s d rag racin g to th e fini sh lin e . Fin ish ing in a respect ab le thi r d place in the O pe n G P class was Bob Foster on a 250 Yama ha. "Ali i need is two more cylinders" was th e co m ment fro m th is ou tstanding young racer. If he ge ts his ha nds on a 750 - wa tc h ou t! T he 250 Gra nd Prix class winne r. Bru ce L ind (TZ 250 Yarn ) from Seatt le, did not have an easy time. Bob Foster closed t he gap on Lind when Lin d m issed two shifts in the last lap of the first hea t. Foster sai d, " I knew I . was gaining . a nd j ust gassed it as we ca me on to the straight. I look ed over as we crossed th e fini sh and saw h is rear wheel - just t hree feet sho rt of first. " Ken Botham (25 0 Yarn ) was m aking h is bid for th e lead until th e co unrershaft sprocket nut backed off. (Botha m was a lso with the lead ers in t he ope n GP race umil his T Z750 seized . ) T he 4 10 prod uc t ion c lass was a super race. with Yam a has sweepi ng th e top th ree p laces . Hea t One saw the lea d cha nge three tim es. Greg McR a e (350 Yam ) and Rocky Ph oenix (350 Yam ) were nearl y equa l in power and handling. unt il Mc Ra e passed on the downhill lea d ing to the ess turns. The batt le resumed in the second hea t. Phoen ix led th e ea rly la ps with McRa e finall y passing for the win in th e fifth lap .
