On the rest art . Pe ters go t off firs t with Fortune and David Skirvin in second and third . Peters and Fortune went at it for three laps before the pressure got to Peters a nd Fortune go t by. Pet er s held on to second for four more laps befo re his eng ine turned on him and he was ou t. Ski rvin took ove r second and brought it home behind Fortune . Rob Selvy bl ew th e 250 Expert half mile and scared himself in th e process. He took the lead with Lee Hales in second. On th e third lap . com ing out . of turn fo ur. he had the wick up a littl e to o high and fo und himself in the classic flying " W " sty le. H e lost his ed ge a nd a little bi t of nerve as H al es had tak en over with a much su bd ue d Selv y in second . H e wasn 't ever ab le to ge t back in it a nd H al es brought it on hom e with Se lvy second a nd Sin glet on third . Selvy didn't feel too ba d as the sho rt track had been his from wire to wire wit h H al es havi ng t he place spot and Singleton t he show position . Todd Bro wn made the most of Pete Hames' sick cycle to grab off both 125 Amate ur/Expert goes . Chris Cannon cam e from beh ind both times to take the second place away from Steve Ka rsten . Geo rge Roch e , on a bored ou t 750 Ka wasaki ( 770cc) m at ch ed Seirn 's five victory tota l, a nd m ig ht have m ad e it six . bu t he slid off into the dirt while leading o n e of t he Heavyweight Production heat races. T he most exciting of his victories came in th e semi -main after he chased early leader Pat Eagan ( 1000 BSA). Eagan didn't even have the satisfaction of finishing second , though , as his Mr. Jags t eammat e J o h n Glover (750 Nor ) squeezed past on the last lap . Former AFM Number One R ud y Galindo (TZ25G) really screamed in th e Heavyweight GJ' Final. H is blazing 32-second lap shattered t he track record set here last month by H a rry Klinzma nn . This was Ru d y's second t ra ck reco rd in less than a m onth. Two weeks b e fore. h e bro ke th e 750 cc record a t Sears Po int . Severa l of th e sta rts in front of th e g ra n ds ta nd wer e qu ite specta cu lar. Most of th e racer s had ge a re d low for th e tight eig ht-tu rn %-rn ile track, and it was com mon to see front wh eels co me. u p in th e a ir as th e rid ers tried to tra nsfer all the ir horsepow er to th e track at o ne time. In t he first moto, Lo cey jumped into the lead with Cole and J annings in second and third. Locey finally pulled ·ahead . · m a int a ining his lead with Cole breathing down his jersey. Both of them were pu lling ahead of Jannings . J erry Shore was running fourth , loo kin g good , co nside ring h is knee injury . Shore m oved up on Jannings' tail . pushing h im hard . But by th e end of th e m ot a . positi on s remained t he sa me. T he se co n d time a r ound , Sh ore ju m pe d into t he lea d with Col e in seco nd and Locey running third . Co le was comi ng u p fast. The p ressure was reall y on ' Sho re with th ree b ig g u ns close behin d him . Cole finall y go t by and Shore held steady in second wit h Locey coming up fast. cha llening him . Jannings was coming up fas t on Lo cey . in a battle for third that hel d do wn to the wire . Locey appeared to be in trouble, falling back slig htly. whi le Shore stretched o ut a m om ent a ry lead . Locey started to t ig ht en up Shore's lead with Jannings goi ng wild! Co mi ng up fas t , challengi ng h im for th ird . Cole held his lea d , to the checkered flag with Locey holdin g firm in third . fo r seco nd overa ll. Shore held a strong posit ion for third overa ll. W illy Simons took hom e to p m oney in the 250 Pros in o ne of th e fa st est rid es in a long time . All eveni ng lon g Simons (Yam· D&G) had Ed d ie Col e (Ya m) -right on, his ta il. , Both of them had som e fierce co m pe titio n from Don Dixon (Dixo n Pl at ing) 'r u n n ing third and Steve Roark in fourth. All throughout both m ot os , Simons had the lead with Cole breathing down his neck . not letting up for a m om ent . By th e final chec ke red flag. Simons rod e home to victory. MA Y 27 Intermediates highlight CMC South Bay Park MX By Rod Eschenburg CHULA VISTA . CA , MAY 25 All three of the Intermediate classes provided the highlights of the evening. In 125 action it was Jack Clawson battling back in the second moto fo r a hard-earned fourth to go with a first round win and the overall ove r two other hot YO\lngsters - John Sotelo and Don Fuller. The 250 Intermediates produced a no ther fine ride by Kawasaki-mounted Dav id Fisher who com bi n ed a win and a second for top honors. In the 500s, it was a three-way tie between Bud Anderson , Bart Rague and Cisco Duran with Anderson taking the 'win in the tiebreaker second mota . The pro classes we re so-so with the excep tion of the 125s where Mike Tripes defeated a large field. Outstand ing rides in the junior ranks included a runaway sweep by J eff A lm ond in the 100s and Sa nta na High's star rider Skip Wamsley picking u p a second in the 250s along with a strong 500 win ) Sou th Bay will conclude its Spring High School Series on June 8 and then .swing into an every Wednesday sched u le for the '77 Summer Series beginningJune 15th. • Results in Results Section . 35
