_._._._._._._._._.In moto one Mo ntgomery got the lead right from the snap of the rubber' band , but pressure was mounting from behind. Amateur Joel Windham really , made him sweat. Windham wouldn't budge and experience is the best . teacher. Windham watched and waited until the right opportunity and in a flash his 400 Yamaha was now the leading bike. with Montgomery's 500 Yamaha now in second. Tom Pa rker . also aboard a 400 Yamaha put Bud Wanbaugh (500 Yam) down to fourth after a close battle. Race two for the open bikes was quite an upset for ' Windham . Montgomery saw the checkered flag from the start and nothing else would do but that Mike would be first across the finish line. Wanbaugh shot into second but soon was put down as both Joe Thrailkill (amateu r) and Windham took advantage of the hole that Wanbaugh left open. The finish was Montgomery leading the tW9 amateurs in. Thrailkill , and Windham . The final race was ready and . waiting with Montgomery in expectation of another win .. and the overall first. They were off. and as th e previous races. Mike' left the other bikes behind. Wanbaugh's second · place was short-lived . Lap one and two was a blanket race with all the bik es jockeying into position and deciding who would lead who . Tom Parker second . Wanbaugh was next in line and was the number two finisher overall a fter he placed second the first two races and was put down to third the final go 'ro u nd . Chris Cannon pulled the holeshot in th 125 Amateur a nd ke pt H em et's Garth Beavers in second. Cann on ha d easy picken's and the first ra ce was his. O nl y t hree riders showed for rnoto two. Newly -transferred Don Milam was the third man in behind Ca n non and Beavers. Cannon led the final race for two laps until a mistake cost hi m the lead and Beavers ushered Cann on and Mulan in in that order. .Ca n non still came up with the most points and the 125 Amateur trophy. • Results in Results Section. Miller got a taste of it in the first moto of the 250cc Pro go . It was J im Lawson who was off first with Da nny Jean in the second and Miller third.
