Glover was awarded the lion's share Of the purse ' with Turner . ' Myerscough , Pete W a nket . and Tripes gelling th e rest. Gary Ogden (FMF) was th e first 250 Pro rid er to make an appearance a rou nd the first turn. J im Gibson a nd his Bassett -tuned Suzuki had the next position . Warren Reid (Hon) . Mik e Palhegyi ( Hus) and Mik e McGowen (H us) were ahead of DG Yamaha .rid er Mike Bell. Reid had bumped GIbs on by the second lap with Bell a l.ready up to third . D an Steele and Sco tt Montgomery and their Yam ahas had -the next p laces. Reid reeled in Ogden ' o n the led ge the n Bell b um ped him back one m o re space. As Reid a nd Be ll blasted around the exceptionally rough terrain . a giant rock h it Bell in the face and chest . gashing his chin pretty badly. Gibson. who at this point . wa s fifth . catapulted off the drop-off and , folded the rear end of his Suzuki under th e frame . Reid led the parade to the checker s. Bell was second . followed by Ogden . R hya n and Glover. After a quick trip to the hospital for sti tc hes . Bell was back at the track and o n the line for the second round of 250 racing. Tim Welker ( R M B) took the holeshot; Ogden had the lead by the time. the' riders approached the ledge , G lover . s-n. Gary J ones . Reid , and R hya n ripped around after him . Reid swooped Jones in the sweeper and Bell b lew by O gden while going u p the long h ill. It was q uite a good dice th~ two had going until Ogden a nd not her rider got tangled and O gden was o ut for the day. Steve Rhyan (KTM ) and Fritz Schlegal (Ma i) rode next. Montgomery rode hard and fast. R h ya n rode harder and just a little faster so a i th e halfway point of th e race . the lead was h is. Dale Anderson moved in to take third leaving fourth to Florida tra nsplant McCoy. McCoy is riding fo r. Maria DelaT?rre and wearing MId · Valley Cycle s co lo rs.
