Lawrence, Roark and White top CRCExperts By Dale Bro w n VA LENC IA, CA , MA Y 29 Runnin g on the Interna tiona l track , which was extended into the Ind ian Dunes sandwash, Mark Lawrence (125) , Steve Roa rk (250) and Mark White (Open) each claimed expert victories via a two -moto sweep _ La wrence, aboard a C ro wn Cycle Yam a ha , won the first 125 Expert m o to convincingly. Mark Ba rn es (Suz) ran second fo r awhile, until Tim Locey (Yam) pu lled inside him in a tum and bea t him to the exit. Lawrence had a bou t 25 seco nds over th e rest of th e rack at mote's end . Inspiration hit Locey in the second moto and he sa iled off with the holeshot. Lawr ence tu cked in be hind him. Locey kept Lawrence at ba y for several laps and it look ed like he m ight take the win . But. just past th e fini sh lin e . Locey slid ou t in a ti ght right hander and Lawren ce to ok th e lead . Locey stayed close fo r awhil e onl y to lose ground in t he closi ng la ps. Barnes had been ru nning thir d . but Gary Scheid ler (Ya m) got by near the end and took third on the tie -breaker. The 125 Intermed ia tes were running at the sa me tim e as the ex perts. J o h n O 'Ma ra (AI Bak er Suz) won co nvincingly. Mark White (390 Hus). winner of the first O pen Expert m o to , had to foll ow St eve Rawso n (Yam) for a few la ps in the second round . Rawso n m om e nta rily bob bled in the sa me turn where Locey went down . W h ite got by and went on for a n easy win . Ra wso n's two seco nds totalled the sa me overall. Skeet Wyman ( Mai) wa s th ird . St eve Roark (KT M) ran away a nd h id from th e 250 Experts. Nobody was really close . Don Dixon (Suz ) was seco nd ; J .J . Hudson (Suz) took thi rd. Crawford wins two at Canyon MX By Lesley Crawford PHOENIX , AZ , MAY 14 18 Canyon hosted a successful first night of motocross racing after being closed for two weeks to in - Dave Crawford has been su pe r hot lately and kep t things steaming by pol ish in g off both the 125 a nd 250 Pr o cl asses. Only bike problems kept him fro m m ak ing a clean sweep of a ll t he Pro races. H e set the stage early in th e evening by tot a lly dom inating the fir st 250 Pro moto . John Irnb riale (H us) . and Bob by Blose (ass) kept sig ht of thei r leader for a few la ps . but Crawford ( Mai) never d ro pped his pace a nd too k th e ch ecker ed fla g with a commanding lead. Crawford aga in m oved o ut fr ont at the sta rt of moto two a nd was never cha llenged. T he battle was betw een Jud O 'Dell (Mai) , Im b ri ale and Blose . The top ' three spo ts ended with the exact order of resu lts as moto one . C rawford first followed by Im bria le a nd Blose . This gave Crawford firs t overall . lmbrial e with 2·2 second and Blose th ird with 3-3 for the evening. Crawford was not to be den ied as he stretched into a sol id lead to take th e checkers with eass e , Crawford was out to do the number on the Open Pros as he grabbed th e hol eshot first moto and sta rted puttin g ground betw een himself and Bobby Blose . both aboa rd Maicos. Ronney Ba nke r , who didn't look more tha n seven yea rs old com peted in the Mini Beginner class on a MR 50 a nd a ltho ugh he di d n't win a nyth ing he was given a specia l t rophy fo r his part icipation . T he overall went to Den to n with Mille r a nd R ied ti ed for second . with the tieb rea ker going to Mil ler. Ten 250 Pros ca m e to the line 10 do batt le and it was a tense m om ent amo ng th e specta tors as t ht"}' wondered if they would see a repeat of t he 125 Dest ru ct io n Derby. It was J eff Vid ic who exploded off the line first with Jim Lawson second and John Atwood third . Miller with a bad start was ba ck in fifth . On th e first full lap La wso n had m oved by Vidi c into first with Miller knocking 'o n Vidic's door. Vidic had m a int a ined his second but Lawson had run into trouble and was way down . Atwood had been doing his homework and th e pressure was on ' Vidi c. On four Atwood had cla im ed sccond and wa s after Miller . Time ra n out and Atwood had 10 sett le for second with Vidi c th ird a nd Dan nv J ea n in his second ride as a pro ~ co m mendab le fo urt h . It was Miller's ra ce fro m wire 10 wire in th e seco nd m ot o as th e rest of the fie ld p layed foll o w t he leader. Vidi c was seco nd a nd Atwood .t hird wit h th e over all ta king the sa me o rder. 500 Pros ca m e together and th e be tt ing was high 10 see if Goat Breker co u ld hold off t he ra leru -Iadened field .
